All registered voters are asked: "Suppose the presidential election were held today, and it included Barack Obama and Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's candidates and Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan as the Republican Party's candidates. Who would you vote for [ROTATED: Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the Democrats (or) Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, the Republicans]?" Those who are undecided are further asked if they lean more toward Obama and Biden or Romney and Ryan and their leanings are incorporated into the results.

These results are for likely voters,

Bitter, much?

That Gallup poll may put the incumbent behind, but keep the electoral college in mind.

Why Do The Gallup Poll's Likely Voter Results Differ From The Rest?

The already controversial Gallup Daily Poll raised even more eyebrows on Thursday with the release of daily tracking results showing Republican nominee Mitt Romney leading President Barack Obama by 7 percentage points (52 to 45 percent) among likely voters nationwide.

The latest Gallup result was by far the most favorable to Romney among national polls released over the past week. Nine other organizations using a wide variety of different methodologies showed results ranging from a 4 percentage point lead for Romney lead to a 3 point advantage for Obama.. . .

Gallup was bought by a corporation last year...maybe it's one Romney is heavily invested in, like the e-voting machines in Ohio.

I think the point of the OP is that Obama didn't get any appreciable bump from his performance in the last debate. I think it's going to be a horse race; think Obama's going to win; and think he may just lose the popular vote. I'd be happy to see that...that may be as close as win as conservatives get this cycle. But it will increase my faith in the American people.

To an extent, we agree. You say it'll be Obama's win, but I'm not comfortable calling an election this close(I do think he'll loose the popular vote, though.)

And as for the "faith in the American people"? I'd hardly say votes for a big business Republican(a party that's views range from minarchism to fascism on any given day) candidate would increase mine.

Dang!! Thought I could give you a like here. ;)

Heck, this is politics and we're from hugely varying ideologies; we're supposed to disagree. I don't generally expect likes from conservatives on Romney issues. :tocktock2

Yeah, calling conservatives fascists probably won't win you too many conservative friends. Lol.

Obama's Debate Bump.

I think DP should consider a ban on topics solely about the results of a poll, especially for things like Presidential or other elections where the poll topics are nonstop and all pointless.

Perhaps next election... ROTFLOL...
Or... we should do it the moment the press stops making polls simply to create a story.

Depressed Wiseone?

I think it would be nice to get another spirited defense of the Electoral College over simply the popular vote.

Barack Obama to be re-elected President in 2012
61.2%
CHANCE
Last prediction was: $6.12 / share
Today's Change: +$0.01 (+0.2%)

Mitt Romney to be elected President in 2012
38.8%
CHANCE
Last prediction was: $3.88 / share
Today's Change: -$0.03 (-0.8%)

The race is tightening FWIW.

I didn't.

I think people could take away the notion you did, for if I said that the Democratic Party takes itself from limited socialism to Balkanization at any given day of the week, I would be rejected for calling them socialists and anti-nationalists.

Depressed Wiseone?

You're criticizing the press for making a poll simply to create a story but you used one simply to create a topic?

Yes Obama's re-election has me very depressed and frustrated, I'm worried that this is going to be our best chance to introduce socialism into this country

What makes you think corporations don't already have socialism? What's tax cuts, breaks and subsidies for corporations if not socialism?

While the averages right now show Obama with a small lead, democrats typically need a much bigger lead to win. In Ohio Obama has about as much lead as Romney in Florida and in Iowa Romney is inching to a lead.

I hate to say this especially late in the game but for the first time ever I've come to terms with the idea that Romney could actually win. The democrats have been bad about conveying their message as has the GOP but, everyone also thinks everything should magically be better as well and it's not. It's not here and in over a dozen other countries, including all world powers but Germany, Japan, and China. I truly hope Ameicans and democrats that believe in good things get better for those with the patience go out and vote, otherwise I wish Romney the best of luck in January.

I'm not the propagandizing wing of the Lib-Socialist party also known as the press.
I think polls serve as good discussion... especially this late in the game.

52-45... I'm Lov'in It.

What message? The talk is Obama will finally reveal his plan for his second term! A wee bit late... a little like his budgets. OH! He had none!!!
Obama's message has been to attack Romney... so much for Hope, Change and a New Tone.

everyone also thinks everything should magically be better as well and it's not.
Nobody believes in magic... except perhaps Obama.
We expect policies to be put into place to stimulate growth. Adding 6 TRILLION of debt and being hostile to business is not a plan to stimulate growth.

It's not here and in over a dozen other countries, including all world powers but Germany, Japan, and China.
WTF does that mean?

I wish Romney the best of luck in January.
As do all Republicans.

The odds are still against Romney. The race has become interesting over the past month, but Romney still has to be the one climbing up the hill rather than the President.

Yes, that is correct, but it's not what we're talking about. While our good friend X factor is talking about conservatives, I'm not - I attacked a specific political party, not an ideology.

You were dismissive so shall I be. Romney believes in magic. Go to Utah and see how many of them do too.

Polling is slightly slanted in dems favor usually. At the least this will be like 2000 if Obama wins and while I don't like it, if he did win only electorally like Bush did in 2000 it would be a crock.

Good point Fiddy...Romney needs to run this last two weeks, and Conservatives need to work like they are behind to see it through....Obama, and his minions in the press are trumpeting these numbers to energize their base.
