I went to Bing and I googled and can't find a good definition for this word. The president used this word today on a tv show.

He's refering to President Obama's gaff on the Daily Show today.

Obama to Jon Stewart: Benghazi response "not optimal"

In an appearance on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart", President Obama told the Comedy Central host Thursday that the response to the Sept. 11 terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya was "not optimal."

Stewart told the president, in regard to the administration's performance in the aftermath of the attacks, that "I would say and even you would admit it was not the optimal response - at least to the American people as far as all of us being on the same page."

That is a very odd way to put it. What is going on with this guy?

People use phrases like "It was less than an ideal situation" all the time. I really wouldn't care but for the karma coming around from all that 47% non-sense.

It's incredible that we have a President describing the murders in Libya as "bumps in the road" and not "optimal" and we have the left obssessed with "binders".

It's incredible that so many people have to put a personal attack spin to everything Obama says. It's amazing the man can do his job for all the noise made on everything Obama says or does. It shows desperation on the part of those who support the GOP when they have to nit pick everything that comes out of Obama's mouth. Romney cries when the least little bad thing is said about him and Obama remains calm, cool and collected. It shows Obama is a good leader with thick skin.

If you would listen to the whole interview and not pick out one word, it is clear that Obama was explaining that what happened in Benghazi was horrible and he is dedicated to getting down to the bottom of it and fixing what ever problems were involved in this situation. He didn't play politics, like Romney does on the issue, he is being a leader and clearly saying something went wrong and there will be no sweeping it under the carpet. He also said that he put out information as it was coming in, and often times during an investigation information changes. You can't expect everything to be known about this situation in two weeks. I worked for the prison system for many years and getting information and conducting investigations is a very time consuming thing.

I think its called trying to worm out of a mistake without anyone noticing.

Obama owned up to the Benghazi situation as much as any leader can. He hasn't tried to cover it up or worm his way out of it.

He was responding to the question was it optimal....he said it wasn't optimal....what would be optimal would be zero loss of life but he failed to add that to his sentence.

he used the phrase "not optimal" because John Stewart asked this question :

Stewart:...I would say even you would admit at least it was not the optimal response to the American people as far as us all being on the same page.

Obama: Well, here's what I'll say. If four Americans get killed, it's not optimal. And we're gonna fix it.

How is he going to "fix it"--it isn't like he can bring the people back from the dead?

Althought I think that Obama ****ed up the media management aspect of the Benghazi matter, by not calling it what it was (terrorism) and assuring a single message from the administration in the weeks that followed, I don't believe he meant to trivialize the deaths of the civilians and soldiers that died.
