WASHINGTON - Donations from military personnel favor Obama - SC military news - TheState.com

WASHINGTON — President Obama has received almost twice as much in campaign contributions from U.S. military and Defense Department personnel as Republican challenger Mitt Romney, despite Romney’s promises to boost defense spending and his criticism of military cuts set to take place in January.

Not quite sure what to make of this.

Also, Ron Paul was KATN when it came to Military donations until end of his campaign.

Obama’s advantage probably comes in part because some of the personnel are political appointees of his administration, said Peter Feaver, a political science professor at Duke University in Durham, N.C., who has studied military personnel and their impact on elections.

I'd say that sums it up pretty nicely. Of the soldiers I know, not a single one gives to presidential campaigns. From side bar conversations with my battle buddies the African Americans support Obama the majority of everyone else supports Romney. Whether its true or not the general attitude of military personnel is that Democratic president = manpower cuts, bonus cuts, reduce funding for modernization of equiptment.

How many of your Romney friend backers switched from Paul? How many are still Paul fans? Last I heard, support for Paul was astronomical compared to Romney and Obama.

As for the political appointees, considering donation limits, does that sound reasonable? There aren't that many appointees to account for that big of a difference unless there are people who are illegally donating money to the campaign over set limits. But that doesn't make sense as the number donated is public information.

I got a gap here in information.

Quite a few, Paul had a very strong following amongst the soldiers I know.

Does the military still push the Combined Federal Campaign deal each year? That is the only way I see most military people donating at all.

I haven't had them "push" it on me since 99-01 so I can't say. Even then I remember most soldiers (because we would kinda talk about it in a group as we picked one) mostly picked charity type stuff not political donations.
