The body language of the candidates is highly analysed, selected and rehearsed. The body language of Obama is extreme and becoming more extreme. Very annoying to me. In the debate he was leaning forward and so jutting out his jaw I'm surprised he didnt' fall over forward.

It is the famous jutting jaw body language Mussolini used. It is extreme dominance over everyone in a very arrogant statement of power over others.

Have any of you noticed that or any other annoying artificial body language for the cameras?

"Similar messages about power are conveyed by Obama's body language, especially by what he does with his chin. If you watch him closely you'll spot his characteristic jaw-jut.

This makes him look visionary, like a man with his eyes fixed on the distant horizon, but its real purpose is to make him appear tough and determined, someone who can take it on the chin. It's no coincidence that the jaw-jut appeals to politicians such as Obama, because men with larger chins have higher levels of testosterone, and they're judged by others to have greater leadership potential."

Maybe it's because he had John Kerry for a sparring partner during his debate practice.

Obama's naturally arrogant and had so much pressure put on him because of his first debate disaster he was similar last night to a cornered rat. It's been cool watching Romney stand up to him in these debates after years of watching the msm protect him from scrutiny and criticism.

I didn't notice anything unusual, but then I'm not an expert at looking for that.

Republicans should use the words "arrogant" and "arrogance" about Obama 10,000 times between now and the election. Most people don't like arrogance. They should use his body language against him.

Look at that magnificent *jaw!

What a great and inciteful thread. /sarcasm

I notice that Romney purses his lips a lot so that his mouth becomes more of a slit, suggesting he's visualizing the enemies he must destroy on his path to attaining his twisted goals. You know who else does that?

Satan.

LOL...yes...and smirking and smug looks are now considered the new look of confident business men...demanding time and attention is no longer just for unruly children....rudely interupting is now called taking charge and putting your opponent in their place.....and so on.

I would love to see a debate where the candidates are sitting behind a curtain so people can't read into their body language something that may or may not be there......be interesting to hear everyone's take on the cadidates with only spoken words to disect without physical appearance and body language.

As much as I would love to say Obama is just terrible in every way. In this case I think it is just an instance of him portraying the position he wants to maintain. I had a friend who said Romney bullied Obama during the debates, and admittedly he did, but he was trying to prove he is capable of handling the most powerful office in this country (and one of the most influential in the world). You cannot look weak. I think that is why Obama was trying to look stronger this debate as he looked so weak in the last.

I'm sure he knows that too. Politics is perception, and he's trying to show that he's a confident leader because it makes it more likely that he'll win.

That would be hard on liberals, who value appearance and style over substance. Those who listened to the 1960 debates on the radio said Nixon won, but those who watched on television thought Kennedy won.

He is arrogant, so it's pretty much what I would expect from him.

So you are trying to point out that Romney gives his attention to those speaking? Or are you a homophobe?

I just think it's funny. Unlike the authors of the jutting jaw article, I see no insight into it whatsoever.

I'd rather have seen a comparison of Obama to Sling Blade. Awesome jutting jaw, mm-hmm.

this was a good excuse for romney losing. You avoided the hitler comparison, but tied it in anyway. You get a five out of five tinfoil hats on this one.

the Main things I noticed in O_ was the mad look in his eyes_ like How Dare you question me and then the Smirk on his face- when he thought R was saying things about him_ he didn't approve'- which were quite alot',
I did Not notice His Jaw, I watched his eyes'

The main things I noticed about R- was the look of Amazement, when he Knew O_ was Not telling the whole truth
then the look of
frustration from Being interruped when he was talking, which is Rude_ whoever your talking too,

Based on the partisan idealization, as well as your patterns of capitalization and punctuation, I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask if you are Steve Doocy?

Mussolini pulled the country out of the depression it was sinking in and made the trains run on time. So he had something to be arrogant about. Also, him not being subjected to the will of the people because elections be damned adds to the arrogance.

That being said.
Obama has neither accomplished the recovery thing or made things run on time... he is also not a fascist and is subjected to public ruling. That being said, his arrogance is no bigger than Romney's arrogance. They are both hanging for dear political career to their achievements and flaunder them about like there is no tomorrow... because if they don't win this election, there will be no tomorrow.

What a bunch of silliness!

In retrospect, it seems we owe them a great deal of thanks.

Wow, that's some jaw! He's so arrogant. Good thing Ohio undecided voters noticed and aren't voting for him.

Some of us need to realize that we are to blame here. Are we actually looking at how the president was holding his head and then judging him for that as though that makes him arrogant? Good lord what are we?

In the first debate he looked down to much. Didn't look good on camera. This debate he made sure to look forward and might have been too focused on it or something and appeared as though he was jutting his chin out (something I disagree with you about) but can't we agree that it's more likely in response to the first debate more so than him being arrogant?

I just don't know what election you guys are watching when you think that this actually should be considered by anyone as even remotely important.

You deserve a round of applause for this one. I usually don't literally lol online, but this made me.
