Democrats hold the registration advantage over Republicans in four of six battleground states that will play a key role in the presidential election, even as Republicans and independents have recorded larger net gains since late 2008, data compiled by Bloomberg shows.

Democrats have the edge over Republicans in Florida, Iowa, Nevada and North Carolina. In Colorado and New Hampshire, Republicans outnumber Democrats, according to the analysis of state data. Three other battlegrounds -- Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin -- don’t report registration statistics by party.

“We have largely preserved the huge gains we built in 2007 and 2008 and increased our advantage in some areas, out- registering Republicans in every single battleground state in each of the past three months,” said Adam Fetcher, a spokesman for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign.

The number of people signing up as independents is growing faster than those for either party as national polls show dissatisfaction with both sides.

Independent voters collectively grew by about 764,000 in the six states reviewed. Republicans have added almost 195,000 voters in those states since the 2008 presidential election -- boosted in part by a competitive primary campaign this year in which Mitt Romney emerged as the nominee -- while Democrats saw a net decline of about 258,000.

I hope they are checking the registrations closely and they are not dead people or felons like they were by the democrats in the past.

Yes I seem to remember some Connie hijinks in 2000, 2004, 2008 and now in 2012. Not too many but too few alive or dead (or so Florida would like you to believe)

Its looking more and more like Obama can kiss Florida goodbye.

Barack Obama's lackluster debate performance last week has dramatically altered the presidential race in Florida, with Mitt Romney opening up a decisive 7 percentage point lead, according to a new Tampa Bay Times/Bay News 9/Miami Herald poll
The survey conducted this week found 51 percent of likely Florida voters supporting Romney, 44 percent backing Obama and 4 percent undecided. That’s a major shift from a month ago when the same poll showed Obama leading 48 percent to 47 percent — and a direct result of what Obama himself called a “bad night” at the first debate. [...]

Likewise, Obama’s lead among likely women voters in Florida fell from 15 percentage points last month to just 2 points, 49 percent for Obama and 47 percent for Romney.

Obama’s once 11 point lead among likely independent voters had cascaded into a 13 point lead for Romney this week, 52 percent to 39 percent
Especially ominous were the numbers for Hispanic voters, a demographic where the Obama campaign is banking on an advantage of at least 15 percentage points. The poll showed 44 percent of likely Hispanic voters favoring Obama and 46 for Romney, though the margin of error is higher with that smaller group of voters
