As I sit at my desk and look around I realize just how little I've
actually done. I didn't build my IPhone, my coffee cup, my
calculator, the pens and pencils, my computer, my desk, chair, TV,
trash can, or write all the books on the shelves. Upstairs, I did
not build all the furniture, the kitchen cabinets and appliances,
dishes, carpet, and sew all our clothing.
In addition, I did not create the shopping centers, the office
buildings, the manufacturing facilities, schools and public
utilities. And, of course, I did not drill the oil wells, purify
the drinking water, build the airplanes, harvest the crops, or
drive the trucks that deliver everything. Oh, and I did not
invent the internet. Al Gore did that.
So, Obama was right. I didn't create 99.999999999+% of what is
out there in the world around me. Everyone did their respective
parts and we are ALL better because of it. Now, back to the very
first thing on my long list of what I didn't create, my IPhone.
It was not created by government or because of government. It was
created by a man with a vision who struggled every day to make the
best products he possible could.
Steve Jobs and Steve Wosniak invested their lives in an idea called Apple. For every success
story like Apple, there are many failures. So, why was Apple
successful and others not? Could it possibly be because of Steve Jobs?
Now, back to the very personal point of this email... I DID CREATE
my business. I started with nothing but $3,000 and an idea. I
knew NOTHING about the industry I got into. In the beginning, it
was just me. I learned. I took the financial risk. I made the
decisions and I lived with those decisions; both right and wrong.
I juggled the needs of my customers, my suppliers, and my
employees. I cultivated my banking relationships so I could
borrow the money I needed to grow my business. I worked 70+ hours
a week and even when I was not officially working, I was still
thinking about how to do it better and smarter. I was
responsible. I hired terrific people and paid them very well.
Together, we built a terrific company. Between me and my
employees, we've paid millions in taxes that the government would
not have received if I had not taken the risk.
So, Mr. President, I take GREAT OFFENSE at your imbecilic
statement that "If you've got a business, you didn't build that.
Somebody else made that happen." It's obvious that you do not
have a clue about the real world.
I did not vote for you four years ago because I thought that being
a community organizer was insufficient experience to be the leader
of the most powerful country in the world. Based on your
performance over the last 4 years, it is obvious that I was right.
However, with regard to your Nobel Peace Prize, I will agree with
you. You did NOT earn that. Somebody else made that happen.
