Unemployement Drops: Legitimate or Not?

The unemployment rate has suddenly dropped just as the President's fortures took a turn for the worst. What does this mean?

I cannot tell you how much I think this stinks. What a co-inkydink, huh?

With this presidential administration thinking about conspiracy is not nutty.

Unemployment drops right near the christmas season? Of course, the romtards cannot see this for what it is because they do not have the brain cells to do simple math. So they claim conspiracy after conspiracy which if true completely debunks their main claim that the economy was doing horrible because it was based on the very numbers they claim to be altered by the president. Like always, their story makes no sense.

<snip>

The Romtards? Just checked the last seven years of BLS unemployment statistics There is no pattern of unemployment rate dropping in September (or October). Yet the rate has somehow managed to magically drop .5% over the last 8 weeks under Obama leading up to the election.

If you want to proclaim some brilliance/credit to Obama that would be fine. Your schoolyard "retard/brain cells" tangent just makes you look a little foolish....

The reason why this really doesn't matter is the same why Romney was able to get a boost from the first debate, and why the first debate won't mean much if obama turns it around. Most american voters have the attention span of a 2 year old with severe ADD, and the intelligence to match. if the election were to be in february when the january drop came out, and people saw their christmas bills then I would say you are right. Instead it will be in november when january does not exist to those people. Obama will be working off of finally lowering the unemployment rate below 8 percent, and this will show most voters the republicans are full of **** when they say he can't do it. All of romney's claims that obama can't do it, and that we are doing horrible seem less credible. Now obama can work off of a new great number and gain support off of that.

It is terrible news for Romney because in the final month of the campaigning Obama has great employment news. now Romney has to combat it with complete crazy talk of conspiracies that make no sense because if obama was going to fudge the numbers he certainly would have done it a long time ago. Then you add the decrease in credibility that is going to hit Romney in the next two weeks as every lie he said in the last debate gets dragged out and beaten to death with all the other horses. I would say this is pretty bad news for Romney because most americans are not going to get the reality that daily, weekly, or monthly reports on these things really don't matter. It is the long term trends which show true growth, and for those who look at the long term trends we see a couple of years of steady growth under Obama. The republicans work off the monthly reports because they have looked better for them, but this just blew them away. With Gas prices doing their normal winter drop they have lost another whining point.

In other words Romney has to pray for a huge event probably around the last week of october. Given this is the last jobs report we will see before then he has to hope for something else.

It's always simple to find a liberal .... 7.8% unemployment is great ??? Then why are you complaining about Bush, if I recall right .. it was about that same "GREAT" number when he left office

funny how Bush sucked and things were terrible when he was POTUS...but when things manage, after 4 years, to get back up to those same terrible levels....Obama is a hero.

It was but it was still dropping like a stone – to the tune of 800,000 jobs a month.

pot....meet kettle

You might have a point if Democrats were claiming the only way Romney balanced the budget in MA was by cooking the books. I understand, your little victory party after the debate lasted less than two days and you're furious. Adding yet another conspiracy theory to the Republican collection is only going to estrange you from those who don't believe Obama is the Anti-Christ.

why is it that these "unemployment drops", " More jobs created threads" are always full of angry Americans shouting " No its not true this country is a mess dont listen". You would almost think that some of your right wingers want America to fail....

Rasmussen today shows Romney ahead in Va. and Florida and within one in Ohio, so much for a reversal by the Obama Administration. I am still waiting for an answer as to whether or not you support the vision Obama has for this country and buy the unemployment dropping .3% when only 114,000 jobs were created?

the only thing sadder than a hypocrite...is a hypocrite who is too blinded by partisan hackery to realize he is a hypocrite

Yeah here is some brilliance for you .. In Jan of 2009 Unemployment rate was …drummm rollll please …… . 7.8% …. So the great job being done over the last 43 months … is an unemployment rate of 7.8% or “NO” improvement what-so-ever…… yep just another in the list of success stories being listed by the brainwashed liberals.

Obama has indeed failed, there are still 14.7% unemployed/under employed/discouraged workers at the end of September, that is hardly a success because that equates to 22.7 million Americans, 12 million unemployed, 802,000 discouraged, and 9 million under employed. Wonder how many of them think the Obama economy is doing well?

You would almost think that some of your right wingers want America to fail....

wrong...we just want people to admit/realize it is failing and do something to change it before it is too late. 4 more years of the same policies than aren't working is not the answer

and you choose to do this in a unemployment drops thread? Strange platform.

Unless you can demonstrate where the math in the figures is incorrect, instead of just whining that it can't possibly be so, I'll accept them as valid. Pretty much the same way the right never questioned the math of any numbers released that didn't help Obama's prospects. Do I share Obama's vision for America? Not on all issues, immigration being a big one, but it is certainly far superior to a life time elitist like Mitt Romney's vision and ultimately that is the choice we are presented with.

Ya' know, Adam, I wish I could find what I've looked for on and off for a year or so. Some time ago, I don't remember when, (but during Obama's presidency) the people who put together the unemployment numbers changed the way they'd done it forever. I remember there being quite a bit of controversy about it at the time because it, effectively, lowered the numbers. That's where I'm coming from. I wish to heck I could find something about it, but I can't think of a search term that will get me there.

You do realize that the DOL Commissioner is an Obama appointee?

that the unemployment rate is still nearly 9% is a sign of the failure.

It means that the economic turnaround is far more important than Mittens learning how to lie convincingly and Obama not having the gumption to shove it down his throat.

Its a month out. Ras is still in full partisan mode. Take three to five points off the Romney score in any Ras poll and you get the more accurate picture.

A hypocrite, in my book, would be someone who doesn't concern themselves with the deficit until their party is no longer in power, someone who accepts polls and statistics as long as they say what they want them to. and someone who thinks killing Islamic terrorists(as well as innocent civilians) is the height of patriotism until Obama is the one doing it. The Republicans are guilty of all of these so I would suggest you move out of that glass house before slinging stones.

You sir can call him an elitist all you want, that doesn’t make him one. Only goes to show your jealousy of someone that has been successful all his life.

The reason I’m voting for Romney is his past successes, he was hired by Bain to turn that company around, he did that … liberals will argue that he did it by destroying companies and shipping jobs over seas … . So what ??? He wasn’t hired to save other companies or keep jobs in the states, he was hired to turn Bain around .. And he did just that . Then you have the Utah Olympics They were in trouble, fraud and bribes , looking like some of the games may have had to be cancelled. Romney steps in .. and games go off without a hitch , and the games end up profitable. Much the same in Mass. Turned a deficit into a rainy day fund, created jobs got health care implemented. Well having to work across the aisle with democrats . In between all this . He starts Bain Capital and face facts .. It’s made him a boatload of money, employees over 400 people all making above the national medium in wages.
In simple terms the man has nothing but a successful background, and if our country ever needed someone that knew how to get things done .. It’s now

Per All things considered today, the reason it seems like the numbers and the rates do not add up is because there was a lag in companies reporting their summer hirings which lead to the starting point for the period having been retroactively adjusted, or something along those lines. They said roughly that some companies were so busy hiring that they just did not have time to get the numbers in. It is good news. We still need a lot more jobs, but I welcome the news regardless of whose watch it occurred on. Unfortunately, we need the rate to drop a lot more than it has still.

The largest one month jump in total employment in the last 29 years. And it just happens to occur 4 weeks before a tightly contested presidential election.

Either Obama is incredibly lucky or some numbers got fudged. (either option is a possibility.....)

I'll let GW Bush's former spokesman answer this:

Tony Fratto, a former spokesman for President George W. Bush, tweeted that the Bureau of Labor Statistics "is not manipulating data. Evidence of such would be a scandal of enormous proportions & loss of credibility."

In another tweet, Fratto said: "Stop with the dumb conspiracy theories. Good grief."
