Romney on 47% comments: I was 'completely wrong'

I expect the magical Etch-a-Sketch to be working overtime, round the clock for the next month

Right... best defense when you can't beat the guy on the stage... is to then go around trying to say bad stuff about him off the stage based off of stuff from several months ago... Really sounds like the Romney campaign is scrambling right now... :lamo

You can not like Obama and still recognize his strengths, unless you are a partisan hack.

I recognize the trojan horse for what it is... Id advise you find out who Obama really is..

God Bless the USA

can your etch a sketch eerase Obamas lies on Erkle Obama slie that he would cut deficit in half ( when he added 6 tillion to it) and the fake stimulus package bringing down unemployment, when it creates more unemployment?

LOL....just pointing out the truth is now saying "bad stuff"? What planet do you come from? The reality is.....Romney is a flip flopper of
major proportions. Just look at the debate two nights ago, Romney changed his position on a half dozen major issues. The man has zero integrity. He makes John Kerry look like a pillar of stability. And I expect even more of his etch-a-sketch shaking as the weeks go on.

You should ask Romney....he know's better than anyone how to change positions.

again what promise has Obama kept.. name one?..

The biggest laugh of the night Mitt "I have no plans on cutting taxes on the wealthy" Romney.....jump back a day and for the last year and the highlight of Romney's "economic plans" is to cut taxes on the wealthy.....Oops.

Second biggest....Willard "I Love medicare" Romney at the debate.....oops....I guess he forgot that the Mitt Romney that has been running on Paul Ryan's gut medicare plan for the last several months.

and now.....Mitt's magical etch-a-sketch tells him that he was totally wrong about the 47% even though he spent the last month "doubling down" on the comment.....

Mitt blows with the wind.....and where-ever his etch-a-sketch tells him to go. At least he keeps it interesting by keeping everyone guessing.

I seriously doubt that recanting this statement actually changes Romney's priorities or goals. He still doesn't see the working class as anything more than a tool to be exploited, and unworthy of anything besides scorn.

LMFAO.. the fact that you're scrambling now, and reaching back to attacks from May/June shows the progressivity of the party so well...

Obama changed his views on gay marriage and immigration (twice) during this very election cycle... and you're trying to claim his oponent can't hold to his positions, because of squabbling over minor wording about his tax plan...

Romney's tax plan has always been that he doesn't want to raise taxes on anyone right now with such a fragile economy... because it would be disastrous to do so...

It wasn't Romney who said he wants to give tax breaks to the rich, that was the Democrats mischaracterization of it... and that's what Romney dispelled during the debate...

Now you're pretending his going back on his words, by refuting your words against him... The endless cycle of BS never ceases from liberals during this campaign...

Can I ask... did you also have altitude sickness before making this awful response?

May/June...was 17 days ago?

PS....and what is the time limit on bringing up "bad stuff" about the President?

Going back to using "Etch-a-Sketch" comments, is resorting to a tactic which grew old back in May/June... There is no time limit on bringing up comments... but when your current line of approach is to scramble to deflect criticism for how poorly you debated by ignoring what went on 1 day ago to go back to what you tried to do 5 months ago is really just further proof that the guy is simply out of ideas...

I am not a fan of people apologizing for saying things they actually believe, even if I disagree with that belief.

I will give you the possibility that Romney doesn't understand the middle class the way you and I may have personally lived it. Will you give me that same accommodation about Obama, who himself has never been a member of the middle class?

I think we should just get a bipartisan Kerry-Romney ticket they would be the most adaptable team ever, sad thing is that would probably get more done than the strict ideology that everyone seems to be holding these days.

That being said, as long as the president supports ssm, and continues supportive policies for transgender Americans he could open up gulags and I would still be voting for him, so I have to admit I contribute to the problem.

That reminds me of cookiegate. When this came out I began to suspect that Romney's entire campaign was written by the same people who made This is Spinal Tap.

Seriously, watch that and tell me with a straight face that didn't look like a spoof.

WTF are you talking about? Obama has been in the middle class 95% of his life.

Seems like he would have brought it up in the first debate, so why would he bring it up in the second one?

You are right. I believe the thinking was why give Romney a forum of sixty million people to apologize to.

Mitt Romney stands by 47 percent video comments, Obama and the Middle East and more [AM Briefing] - Think Tanked - The Washington Post

He stood by his comments but said they weren't elegantly stated. Now he's saying he was completely wrong. That's why I'm curious how his supporters who agreed with his statements feel about this recent development.

 well, I'm not a Romney supporter (I'm a Ryan supporter), but I would imagine this reinforces the narrative that Romney is indeed willing to be different things to different people in order to get elected. Now in reality it's probably simply a calculated move to negate an opponents' advantage. But it still does generally reinforce the idea that Romney in the White House will not be the conservative he ran as. Which would dovetail with the last debate.

THere are always two messages in politics -- one for those the politician actually represents and one for the consumption of those needed to elect them.

Romney's statement was very much right for those in his audience at the time who were those he actually represents, and only wrong when considering the sorts of statements necessary for general consumption.

I'm just curious how Romney supporters feel about this considering he said earlier that he stands by his comments and they, for the most part, agreed with his assessment. Does this waver your support of him at all?

I personally think it's a preemptive measure for the next debate because Obama will most likely bring it up.
Well, he can't just wave it off with a bunch of nonsensical rubbish like Harry Reid would... he'd never get away with it.

Best thing to do is simply clarify his comments and move on.

A most elegant way to rationalize hypocrisy and duplicity. If you even need a job Gardener, I can introduce you to some people in the biz.

I did not say that with any sort of admiration, nor do I support him. I was simply pointing out what he was doing and you were unable to understand my reply since you made assumptions.
