Did something I swore I'd never do... I voted early.

There's something that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about going down to the polls ON ELECTION DAY and casting my vote(s). Today I was down at the county building doing other business, and my state opened early voting last week, and decided to go ahead and cast my vote while I was there. I figured since I have read and listened and researched for so long that my mind has been made up for awhile now. I seriously don't expect some new revelation to come out that might make me change my mind.

So many people vote early now that there's never a line on Election Day. Like you, that's the day I prefer to do it.

I'm holding out for the highest bidder. Right now I'm waiting on Exxon to counter.

So, If you don't mind.....Who did you vote for?

Big Bird. After being drug into the debate Wednesday night he announced that the U.S. people should write him in so that PBS and Sesame Street might be saved. He's only 46 points behind in the polls and might win Alaska!

In Ohio, employers need to give a "reasonable" amount of time for people to vote. Not going to vote early when I can get paid for it.

Sarah will put a stop to that ****.

OMG, Sarah hates Big Bird!!

She'll make a meal out of Big Bird. Old bird will be tough though, gotta tenderize it for a couple weeks.

Now if someone were to photoshop Big Bird into that footage of the interview of Sarah Palin while they were chopping off turkey heads in the background, that would be funny.

Sarah has skinned a moose; skinning a bird isn't a problem.

I have to vote early. I'm rarely in town on election day. I know some people don't like that early voting is out there. But, people like me can't get to our polling location and it is impossible for our employer to accommodate every employee. So early voting is important to me.

You pluck a bird. The skin is the tastiest part so you don't wanna toss that out :)

I like doing that too, though it's probably due to me only being able to vote since 08, and it's still kind of new to me.

I would add: Limiting voting to 1 day seems kind of like an obstructive practice to me. Allowing people to vote "early" seems like it would insure a bigger turnout, especially since election day falls during the work week for most people. I'd be totally okay with "voting from Date X until Date Y" type of policy, where votes received after that final date being excluded from the count. Appropriate allowances made for military, of course.

I'd agree with that. There is a law that requires employers to give employees an opportunity to vote, but that law is impossible to comply with if your employee has to be in England or Australia on that day. Early voting is the best answer, unless absentee voting rules are loosened. I prefer early voting because you can verify the voter's identity.

What restrictions on absentee voting need to be loosened? I have helped some of the Big Band Babies from church and my neighborhood get theirs and fill out the applications. There are a ton of reasons by which one may get an absentee ballot. Other than having witnesses to avoid that whole fraud thing that people think we shouldn't protect against, I see absentee ballot as it already is preferable to standing in line. I just don't have a legitimate reason to apply for one.

When I was in Tennessee, I knew I would be out of the state for the election. So I requested an absentee ballot. They would not send it to my home in Tennessee. I had to get the form at an address that was out of state. Even though I wouldn't be at any specific address and could not predict where to send the form. So, I sent it to my parents and had them send it back to me. Had I not applied early, I would have been denied my right to vote. As it was, I probably broke a law to exercise my right.

Yeah, that is odd.

Sure. I voted to retain my state Supreme Court justices.

I believe this is a federal law, though don;t quote me on that, and I'm too lazy to go look it up at the moment.

I used to be against expanding voting days (other than legit absentee ballots) for a long time, but I have softened my stance on that. Now, I really don't see the harm. Having said that, though, I would like to see some kind of national standard, i.e. a 30-day time frame, or whatever we decide it should be. I think some level of consistency would serve us better than a hodge-podge of differences.

"Big Bird" has probably made some much $$$ over the decades that Obama should tax the hell of that greedy super rich bastard big ass bird. Deport his ass too, I'm certain he's NOT American.

Its state by state, some have a form, some have none. Ohio's has been on the books since 1953.

I don't see any real need for it.

Aside from the military, we have four years to prepare and make arrangements for voting day then when the day comes we generally have a window of 12 hours or so to get to a polling station that is usually a stone's throw from our houses. There are absentee ballots if something comes up to take you away from your home on Election Day.
