I really hope he wins. I thought he did an excellent job. Has a terrific stage presence...what he said made sense...he held his own against the President of the United States. (This was not the debate(s) with McCain four years ago.)

I loved what he said about not having specifics. Paraphrased, he says he doesn't start with specifics. He starts with goals. He knows what he wants to accomplish and will work in a bipartisan way to get it done to the best of his ability. Romney should have said, "I don't work the way you did when you dumped a 2,000-page document on Congress and said my way or the highway." He has pretty good evidence of his ability to work across the aisle seeing as Romneycare was passed with a Congress made up of 87% Democrats.

I liked his phrase of "Trickle Down Government." Catchy and really does a good job of describing Obama's philosophy.

I thought Obama did very well. I expected him to. He's got the inside track. He's an excellent speaker with an engaging personality. I did notice we didn't see that confident little boy grin. I think he was genuinely challenged.

I really thought Romney held his own. He had to nail this debate in order to have any expectation of a win. I think he did.

You?

I agree...
Mitt was very good.. he looked sharp and smart..

Obama looked like a bully that finally got humbled...Obama is nothing but an empty suit at best, a con artist..

Romney was SO MUCH better than McCain in 2008. That was refreshing.

I've got to hand it to Romney -- he did an excellent job. It was all bull****, of course, but he spun it about as well as he could. :D

Extremely impressed with Romney. Obama seemed uncomfortable and Romney was by far the best I've ever seen him. It'll be interesting to see if the nationwide polls change at all.

This, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes, ultimate flip-flopper, basically saying anything that is popular, doesn't matter if he's said it before or not. But he did that well. Obama needs to come out swinging in the next debate.

A definite change from the 2008 debates lol

Well damn. Now I kinda wish I'd watched.

1. Romney sounded confident. Obama stammered and stuttered and looked like he really missed his teleprompter.
2. Romney spoke directly to Obama. Obama had a hard time even facing his opponent.
3. Romney kept his gaze on his opponent as Obama spoke. Obama looked like a scolded dog while Romney spoke. Almost apologetic.
4. Romney recited global facts from the last four years. Obama gave little vignettes about people (real or made up) and their specific little problems.

Romney destroyed Obama

Obama looked like a cornered demagogue out of excuses because that's exactly what he is. This debate will change the election in Romney's favor. No doubt about it.

Interesting that when asked about the role of govt. Only one mentioned the Constitution.

My take. Romney did a better job.

But I know that both were putting spin on the answers.

What sucks is there is not enough comedic material for SNL like they had in 2008. Man when they had the McCain character wandering about lost on stage with his head eclipsing the camera... that **** was hilarious.

I have to say I don't buy Romney's excuse about specifics. At this point there are only two possible reasons that he doesn't reveal them, other than it makes it almost impossible to criticize a vague and amorphous plan. The first, and most likely in my opinion, is that he does have specifics in mind and either they don't really accomplish what he claims(many say the growth he forecasts to remain revenue neutral is unrealistic), or they have drawbacks that would hurt him badly with the middle class. The other possibility, is that he hasn't looked at the specifics yet. If this is the case, how can he even be sure what he claims he will do is within the realm of possibility? I don't entirely discount this possibility because I've seen businessmen before who take this "We'll make it work" approach, usually to disastrous consequences. If Romney does have specifics in mind, there is absolutely no excuse for him not to furnish them. He is trying to work both ends on policy since we can't point to any actual national financial record such as Obama's first term and he won't even specify what he believes is the solution. Too bad Obama couldn't have ceded as much of his own time as Mitt needed to explain his plans in detail. I'm betting you still wouldn't have gotten an answer even if he was given an hour.

You know he's already married right?

Star, you and I actually agree on this one. Romney said a lot of stuff that moved him away from people like me. The biggest stuff that bugged me was his pandering. He acted as if he could keep all of the things the President has done that people like while changing everything the President has done. For instance, no denial of healthcare to anyone; keeping kids on health insurance until they're 26; keeping the teacher hires that President Obama has funded; etc. However, anyone who has any sense about them knows that if the dude is going to cut money and programs, this stuff will go away. It has to. People like me don't have a problem with a 25 year old paying for his own health insurance. People like me don't think the Federal gov't should be able to dictate to a company to take on a high risk patient. People like me don't think more teachers is the answer. Not to mention his Federal school ratings program he talked about. How is a guy in DC gonna tell me how a school in Oregon is doing? It will just force teachers to "teach to" a standard instead of the kids.

I didn't agree with alot of what Gov Romney said, however, it was great to see the President get challenged. Not to sound like a CNN talking head, but I don't think the dude thought Gov Romney was going to be able to get at him like that. The guy was obviously well prepared.

Oh I hope you are right - Romney can wipe the floor with Obama at any level.

The reason is that Romney is WAY smarter than Obama. Romney has the truth on his side, while Obama has nothing but tired old propaganda lies to rely on. Those lies make great ads for the weak minded, but they evaporate in an ugly 'poof' when exposed to the truth.

If Obama is as weak next time, they may have to call in the SPCA to haul him out of the arena before he gets maimed too badly to heal.

However, NBC will find some way to make it sound like Obama won, and that will be the focus of their reporting all week.

If only intelligent voters were allowed to vote, Obama would have never won to begin with, but would be laughed out of the campaign this year.

Obama is no match for Romney - except in a fantasy land of propaganda.

What happened tonight is Obama didn't have a teleprompter and Obama has a record that he cannot defend. Neither occurred in the 2008 campaign. What you saw tonight is the real Barack Obama, the guy who was unqualified for the job and someone who has no idea of basic economics. He is an excellent campaigner but a very poor leader and one of our worst Presidents. It is now time for Barack Obama to be fired and after tonight he is getting a one month notice.

Not making excuses for Obama, but Romney does have the advantage of not having the most difficult job on the planet in addition to debate prep.

Now conservatives are saying Romney didn't win because Obama can't speak without a telepromter... Before the debate the conservatives were saying how Obama was a great orator and such. You guys are a laughing stock.

Yeah, President Obama has to make it to his important time slot on "The View" while Hillary Clinton takes care of the unimportant UN meeting occuring in New York City. He makes a hard job look easy and not because he's good at it.

Obama was a great orator
Now all we need is the tape of his oration with you and we can derail his entire reelection campaign.:2razz:

Sure, his doing a five minute segment on the View clearly overshadows the fact that he's running the most powerful country on earth ... while Romney is practicing his zingers on the copy boy.

It also overshadows the UN apparently. I hate the UN as much as the next guy, but not as much as The View. I actually think they are the same thing.....so nevermind, President Obama made it to that UN meeting after all. I rescind my remark.

He did a great job tonight. Where it is going to be pretty risky for him will be with foreign affairs. I think for the most part, Obama, due to experience, and arguably due to prudence, has an advantage (or clear advantage) here. Obama did not have much in the way of experience or the ability to articulate his foreign policy vision with authority when he was first running. Now, 4 years in that chair finally enables him to stand above Romney, perhaps quite easily.
