Do you think anyone cares about celebrity endorsements? I don't think they change a single vote - thought the media often gives them great attention.

Depends on the "celebrity". Leonardo DiCarprio or Cameron Diaz, I could literally give a ****.

Neil deGrasse Tyson or Bill Nye? I'll give their opinions more credence. Not that I would nessecarily change my opinions because of their's, but I'll take what they say more seriously.

I don't particularly enjoy the fact that fame seems to come with an unceasing desire to run their mouths about everything and anything. I don't care what politician a celebrity endorses anymore than I care what politician the guy down the street endorses.

I'd be much more likely to consider the stance of somebody like Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Bill Clinton, top scientists or strategists on specific policies, programs, or areas of concern (i.e. education).

Matt Damon who was a huge supporter of Obama in 2008 lamenting about him rolling over on Wall Street amuses me on so many levels.

Celebs have and will continue to have much power with the politicians. Clint Eastwood was recently a keynote speaker at the Republican convention for example.

Unfortunately it is probably safe to say that most Americans can tell you which movies Eastwood was in but could be hard press to tell you about any bills Romney passed.

Yeah, this. I might be willing to lend a moment of my time to hearing the opinion of someone who is actually knowledgeable about something, and has gained their fame by proving as much.

But that has nothing to do with them being a celebrity. I'm as likely to give my time of day to a qualified person I meet on the street as I am to give it to one who is famous for their qualifications.

But some pop singer or starlet? No, not really. Not unless they have some other body of knowledge that makes them qualified in some other area, like, say, George Clooney or Natalie Portman. They might have something of meaning to offer to the debate due to their other work and studies outside of being movie stars.

But simply being famous is not a reason to give someone's opinion weight.

It used to be a two way street I am told. Celebs would get paid a ton of money by interested parties to appear at their DC occasions so people would support the interested parties' interests in order to keep being invited to the parties where they could hang out with the celebs.
