Republican welfare (92 billion for rich) vs Liberal welfare (59 billion for poor)

The title says it all, with all this framing of Obama championing the welfare state, I thought I'd post some facts about where most of the welfare spending actually goes. What a surprise, to the rich.

Think by Numbers » Government Spends More on Corporate Welfare Subsidies than Social Welfare Programs

Have at it folks, let the conservative apologizing commence!

The article left out a rather significant chunk of money. In 2011 the Federal government paid $324 Billion to the states for medical care for the indigent which included more than $255 Billion for Medicaid. There was also $36 Billion sent for job training and social services related to education (roughly $10 billion of this is for daycare for the poor). More than $52 Billion went to payments of the EITC in excess of taxes owed and another $22.5 billion went to payments where Additional Child tax credit exceeded taxes owed.

Now, I'm no genius here but when I add just these numbers it comes to $434.5 billion which is an understatement of something like $380 billion from what the article cites so to call this article bull**** would be giving it at least 7.5 times the credit it deserves.

(numbers from here)

Dude...I grew up in rural Kansas...the evening news started with the Agriculture Report...I know exactly what it is and the difference between corporate farms and family farms.

Most farm subsidies go to CRP, crop development (i.e. hybrid seeds) and equipment loan guarantees. Some go to stupid things like ethanol production. But it isn't this big evil program that libs love to make it out to be...and it is far far smaller than any social program.

Maybe you should get off welfare, I'm tired of paying for you moochers in Kansas. You hillbillies need to get off the government dole and learn to support yourself.

all we get from dem handouts is more dependent dem voters. "Corporate welfare" often benefits the area where it takes place

Corporate welfare teaches people like you to suck off the government teat. Without it you couldn't turn a profit, this enables you to make a living when you should have gone out of business. This weakens the U.S. economic structure keeping afloat weak businesses such as yours.

Well then let old people die, I'm tired of them sucking off the government teat. If they didn't save money in their younger years its not my problem.

How's it feel?

opinion noted and rejected as moronic. we have intergenerational welfare. guess who did the most teat sucking on the GM bailout? not the shareholders

THE UNIONS

The article talks about subsidies, not taxes. Further, most of the subsidies went to farm aid. Hardly the "corporate welfare" the OP wanted us to believe it was.

Plus the article grossly under cuts the welfare costs. 55% of the federal budget is dedicated to Social Security, Health and Human services (including Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP) Welfare and other safety net programs. If the budget is $3.5 trillion you can come up with the actual amount spent on social programs.

You're right.

Targeted tax exemptions are just as bad as subsidies and government contracts are.

THE UNIONS

Being that you're part of the boomers you've sucked this country dry of welfare more than anyone. You guys suck social security dry, far more than you ever paid into it, while the young work their ass off paying into a system you guys have already cleaned out. You grew up with high paying jobs in which one person working could easily support their family, pay off their home, pay off their car, pay for healthcare without too much trouble. You returned the favor by busting up the unions and lowering typical wages below the poverty line, so now we have the working poor. You're created a medical complex that is so expensive nobody has enough money to afford it if they get sick. We spend almost a trillion dollars a year paying off your health care bills you can't afford because you blew all your money living at the easiest time in U.S. history. Now that the country is 16 trillion in debt, there's no manufacturing jobs because corporations sold out to China, you want to take away piddly amounts of money for young people that can't find a job and even if they do they still don't make **** enough money to pay for themselves.

Yet you have the gall to cry about all this, when its your generation that ruined the U.S. Maybe we should pull the plug on you geezers and save a few trillion.

Every President is owned by the super-rich. Until we have an A.I. as world president, almost nothing will ever get done and what does will benefit few before many.

Am I wrong?

A.I. For President 2056

:aliens3:

So does Romney own HIMSELF or what?

Is he an attempt to cut out the middle men.

stop the idiocy I have paid millions in taxes. I pay for people like you.

You have no idea where i get my money or what I do other than I am a trial attorney in mainly federal tort actions, labor and civil rights. Geezer?

LOL did you ever see that great line from John Wayne in the Cowboys.

how old are you sonny?

You took millions in welfare, you've paid and built nothing, moocher.

How true. I know a Ford exec that split his job into 2 jobs when he retired just so the next person coming along would not make the $600k he was making per year.

As far as unions go, they are just as corrupt as politicians. Take for example my mother. She worked for Northwest airlines (back when it was Northwest). The union forced her to take a pay cut, promising that everyone would get a fat raise in a few years. Well, the raise never came and she was forced to take an early retirement or lose her job. Now she gets almost nothing for the 17 years she busted her a** for them. No amount of convincing will turn my attitude towards unions. I've worked for unions and they haven't done a thing for me either.

Look, I know it's easy to rant and rave about these things but doing so really doesn't solve anything. How about coming up with a solution that doesn't involve spending ourselves into oblivion or splitting the nation along ideological and economic lines? Seriously, wouldn't it be better to come up with something that works instead of standing on opposite sides of the road chucking brickbats at each other?

I guess just spewing horsecrap is the best you can do. What did I take? lets see a mortgage deduction means I had less money taken from me. Never attended a public school. Never used an ER Room that others had to pay for. I pay more income taxes myself than over 60 million americans combined.

So you are just lying

and why are you afraid to post your age when you call me a "geezer"

We should do that for the young leeches as well, right? Let Darwin prevail.

So hilarious watching the conservatives spin subsidies as being something other than free money. You guys are weird, why do you like having your tax money go to wealthy corporations but it makes you sick to see a poor person helped? It makes no sense at all.

Did you actually read the article linked in the OP?

Isaac Asimov certainly thought it was a good idea.

If IA approves of AI, we got a sure thing going here.

Just a reminder that 100 years ago today, almost every moment of your life would have been science fiction.

I'm only replying to point out that you are so blinded by your hate that you missed the little box on the left that says I live in FORT WORTH TX.

If that's what you call civilization, I'm damn proud to be uncivilized.
