politico, print partner msnbc, this afternoon:

President Barack Obama is trying hard to win veterans, but it looks like they’d prefer a new commander in chief.

The Obama campaign had been hoping that veterans and their families — especially among the post-Sept. 11 generation that served in Iraq and Afghanistan — would be part of their path to victory: They’re a high turn-out demographic and concentrated in battleground states, with nearly 1 million each in North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, and 1.6 million in Florida.

But recent polls make clear that the president’s campaign is losing the battle. Even as Obama leads in Colorado, Florida, Ohio and Virginia, Mitt Romney is up by double digits among veterans in those states. Nationwide, he’s got a commanding 20-percentage-point lead over Obama and has even overtaken the president with younger veterans.

“It’s no contest,” said Maurice Tamman, a Reuters data news editor who has polled on veterans and the presidential campaign.

there was talk this morning on msnbc, looking at the same battleground poll, about romney leading the middle class by 14

these kind of demographic splits terrify incumbents, they indicate a cracking of the media/pollster narrative

obama has been pushing for vets, it's been a hi priority, he talks a lot about ending iraq and winding down afghanistan and tours of duty and benefits...

he sends michelle out to em a lot, trying to reach the families

politico points to the sequester cuts, affecting 100K defense jobs in ohio, 200K in virginia...

anyone familiar with america's electoral almanac knows the decisive role norfolk-hampton roads plays in the commonwealth

anyone who listens a lot to cpan's open phone show in the morning, washington journal, has heard hundreds of complaints over the years against the VA

especially in the midwest, flyover country, where distances are always larger

politico relegates dadt to the end of its analysis, almost an afterthought

susa (survey usa) says all the chaos and collapse in the middle east may actually help obama---veterans "gravitate"

politico concludes thus---tho it may not ultimately help him with the vet vote, obama should continue the outreach cuz it helps his brand as strong on national security, and independents, blue collar whites and women like it

politico forgets to mention the green vs blue attacks in afghanistan that have killed more than 50 of ours this year

nor do roger simon's journolisters and professional leftists consider general allen's recent assurance that this scary series of assassinations committed by those we train and arm is NOT taliban directed
