Embassies are Sovereign US Soil. The question isn't "why does the statement say what it does", the question is "why are we issuing a statement instead of gunning down people who come over the walls?"

Popular misconception #1. They are not sovereign territory, and never were. Host states allow certain rights, which can be withdrawn. The host country is sovereign, and might take a dim view of shooting at the natives.

I took a good long look at the remarks, but I am not sure when Barack Obama personally approved this message. His name is not under it last time I checked.

It heralds the US as the great nation it is, it does not apologize but says that on a day that the US was attacked for it's beliefs, it acknowledges that respect for religious freedom is very important.

Obama has been very active in hunting muslim terrorists. So to say he apologizes is bull crap IMHO.

The really sick thing is that instead of mourning the loss of the life and the attacks on US soil, the only thing Romney does is try to make political gain of it, that is sick IMHO, that is the actions of a person with morals that are not presidential in any way shape or form.

Especially because Romney did not herald the greatness of the US military in his speech and Obama did. Romney is unfit for president.

While I think it was acceptable to apologise for the movie that insulted muslims, I do not think it is okay to not condemn the actions of the violent muslim protestors.

I believe the statement should have been like this.

"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns efforts of individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. However, in the United States of America, we support the right of free speech. We also strongly condemn the protestors who attacked the US embassy etc. "

US should stand up for their values!

If the Department of State considers it the sovereign territory of the United States, then it should defend it as such.

Unlike his predecessor who helped the relatives of Osama Bin Laden find private flights out of the country in the days after 9/11.
