You made it. The battle over welfare, abortion, homosexual rights, women liberation and the racial divide should have been over long ago. The conservatives have lost and won. The liberals have lost and won. However, there are those that demand intransigence and would rather keep fighting for those lost causes. This is aided by insulation from the truth in our lousy history books that hide the ugly truths and then we find the internet with a wealth of deep informational resources to refight those old battles.
But, you guys are 20 years behind the game. It is time to make peace, surrender, claim victory and move to the next hill. No one really likes pba's. Few if any want to have abortion illegal in all cases. Intransigence only empowers the radicals. Find consensus and the position will be defended by an immovable supermajority.
WE HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS TO WORRY ABOUT.
Global warming is real. It is influenced by man. The science does not lie and the models have become quite good at predicting the effects. We can do something now to slow it's impacts. There are natural counters but we first need to mitigate our harm.
The coming meltdown in SS/Medicare is real. We can fix it. The longer we wait the more painful reform will become. You cannot create REAL wealth from thin air. You can print funny money, but it will only cause distortion in the market. The free market is one of the most effective self correcting systems we have. It will fix itself very quickly if you just let it. No need for big changes in either direction. We just need to stop creating more problems with lousy repair jobs.
There is still a danger of nuclear holocaust. Digging in and rattling our sabers alone will only drive the madmen to the brink. We must encourage, protect and defend the moderates. We must empower and embolden foreign nations to help us. Yes, they may someday be our enemies. We must leave that to our children. If we teach them to be open and understanding then peace will be the result. If we teach them to dig in and show only hate and fear to those different than them, then they will kill themselves with it.
The internal culture clashes are a danger. But those can be easily mended, if we get of our holes and look around us.
We have met the enemy and he is us.
Quit listening to the goats. Most figure they are dead anyway and soon to be in heaven. They do not care about what hell they leave behind. But they are in a bad place and headed for a worse one.
