Democratic National Convention 2012: 5 landmines - Reid J. Epstein - POLITICO.com
they must be avoided
five potential pitfalls the pro leftists at politico preconceive:
1. bill clinton
he's a total free agent, beholden to no president obama, he cannot and will not be controlled
will he credit himself over obama, will he show even the slightest independence from any hi profile position, thereby giving obama's enemies, in the campaign as well as in the extremely loud, powerful and very aggressive conservative media, any piece of substance to seize upon?
clinton will be there for clinton, bottom line, the brand is still uber ambitious
can clinton march in total lockstep with the president and his party, or must he stakeout some significant piece of turf all HIS, maintaining his relevance?
chicago expresses confidence that former president clinton will not let them down
candy crowley this morning: "there's always the possibility clinton could simply outshine the president"
2. you didn't build that
elizabeth warren, the cherokee with cheekbones, is the author of the sentiment, as politco says, "the woman from whom he cribbed the line," and ms warren has been given a primetime spot
she also, according to warren herself, is the "creator" of occupy wall street, she "supports what they do"
Elizabeth Warren Takes Credit For OWS
really?
the rapes, the refusal to turn over criminals to police, the taking over of banks and private property to do serious and often revolting vandalism, the now more than 5000 crimes associated with the movement?
ok
but even politico worries for the hi profile ms warren, locked in a very tight (and very expensive) race for teddy's seat---because what sells in massachusetts does not always go over well nationally
3. class warfare
romney/ryan and their militant allies in the media, with its gigantic audience (drudge had A BILLION hits last month), are already pouncing on the president as a divider, a man who sees people merely as members of one class or another, as a panderer to one segment of america AGAINST another
occupy wall street is pledging a much increased presence in charlotte
Groups to protest at Democratic convention in NC - Wire National News - The Sacramento Bee
ms warren is certainly not the only democrat who has expressed sympathy, sometimes in moving measures, for the unwashed, incoherent, prone to lawbreaking and almost always extremely weird and hilariously funny occupiers
"young, spontaneous, focused, effective"
Nancy Pelosi: God bless occupy Wall Street protestors - YouTube
"not that different from tea party protests, we are on their side"
Obama: Occupy Wall Street ‘Not That Different’ From Tea Party Protests - ABC News
when it comes to occupy, chicago says it doesn't foresee any trouble
4. gotta fill up bank of america stadium
they've sure been trying
"with north carolina democrats giving out tickets to anyone who asks obama could find himself speaking to sections of republican hecklers or other protesters"
"in recent months, obama’s campaign has been pushing tickets on north carolinians... with little vetting who could score a ticket"
a gop op applied and got one, worries roger simon's journolisters
"at a recent background briefing with reporters, six senior obama campaign officials pointedly declined to predict, when asked, if the president will look out at a full house when he formally accepts his party’s nomination"
no worries, ms psaki came out yesterday
Obama campaign says it will fill football stadium for convention
5. weather and logistics
the journosliters, unsurprisingly, overlooked some concerns that will be very obvious to the less ideological moms and pops who will be tuning in
6. the disaffection of labor
unions are sitting on the sideline, trumka is "scaling back," the umw is out
why?
north carolina is right to work, the big moment will go down in BoA stadium
Democratic National Committee To Pull Funds From Bank Of America
7. the hi profile this convention will put on social issues, and rather divisive social issues, at that
the party wants to talk abortion, paint the gop as extreme---obama opposed live birth
republicans talk jobs, the economy, debt, wages, prices, energy, the need for courage and vision to address the entitlement catastrophe that is inevitable without the leadership the american people deserve
dems trot out sandra fluke, naral, planned parenthood, caroline kennedy, tammy baldwin...
more power to em, of course
enjoy
