Just for the record...

"...4. In December 2008 GM idled production of GM SUVs at the Janesville plant. Medium-duty truck assembly continued.
5. In April 2009, four months after Obama was inaugurated, GM idled production of medium-duty trucks.
6. In September 2011, more than two years after Obama was inaugurated, GM reiterates that Janesville plant is on “stand by status.” Auto industry observer David Cole, tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel it would be premature to say the Janesville plant will never reopen.
6. Today the GM facility in Janesville still has not been retooled “so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs,” as Obama promised."

Ryan was correct, but that won't keep the Chicago machine from calling him a liar.

I commend you for sharing the facts...even though liberals will still continue to spin every event to make themselves look good and the others look bad. It's in their nature.

This issue is getting WAY past tenuous as both sides continue to parse words to support some flimsy position! Candidate Obama said ‘I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years”. There was no explicit promise in that statement but rather a ‘hope’ that the government would do something, nothing else. In Ryan’s speech he didn’t say the President promised to keep the plant open but rather a promise of a recovery. The specific instance where BHO ‘PROMISED a recovery’, which IS specifically what Ryan asserted, has yet to be substantiated. The point of a ‘nowhere in sight’ ‘promise of a recovery’ is a subjective statement that would be difficult if not impossible to ‘fact check’. Ryan stated the plant is ‘locked up and empty’ and that is a fact.
The fact checkers and talkin heads have instead substantiated/argued that the plant was closed/open prior to BHO’s inauguration but this position seems to be based on what is is.

The fact is that on Dec 23, 2008 GM laid off 2000 people and supplier companies laid off another 1,200 people effectively closing the plant. What remained was a contingent of 57 people to complete the contract with Isuzu. Read your second link.

No, what remains is a plant that General Motors still owns that Obama promised would be around for a 100 years if the government helped. The Government helped, the plant is still idled.

If you actually go back and read the transcripts of Ryan's speech, he wasn't blaming Obama for the plants closure, he was criticizing him for all the hopey/changey promises that he made but failed to keep.

If you're going to get pedantic about it, OP, show me where Obama used the word promise.

“Reports that the GM plant I visited in Janesville may shut down sooner than expected are a painful reminder of the tough economic times facing working families across this country. This news is also a reminder that Washington needs to finally live up to its promise to help our automakers compete in our global economy. As president, I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America.

Was quoted and linked in the OP. Pretty clear as day. The factcheckers got this one wrong.

I agree, this subject should never have became a major issue. No matter when it was closed, the point is this country is in awful shape. And that needs to be fixed.

And Obama hasn't been up to the job. That means we need to let him go and find someone else to fix the economy.

I agree, there are some things that need to be fixed immediately and we should be focusing on important issues this election year--most importantly the economy and the out of control government spending.

Does 57 work out to be about 2% of the 3200 people who lost their jobs? No wonder the Ryan and Romney backers insist that such a small number translates into what they want it to mean.

I agree, but personally I don't think either candidate is right for the job to fix the economy.

Yep, I would love to see a 3rd party come out of nowhere though because I am not convinced Obama or Romney can provide the fix needed.

I am convinced Obama most certainly cannot fix it. That has been proven.

As far as a 3rd party, I used to think that would be good, but over the years I have learned that having a two party system keeps either party from becoming too extreme, because they have to appeal to such a broad base, otherwise they get voted out of power, like should happen in the Senate and at the White House in November.
