"obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans... and heal the planet"

"my promise to you is to help you and your family"

it's a question of priorities

So are you saying that Mitt Romney doesn't care about our slow drowning death as long as he can make some money? I guess if florida sinks he won't have to worry about losing it.

Here comes the pseudo-science again.

Where will all that extra water come from to sink Florida. The people that know this sort of thing say the Himalaya glacies are growning.

That was funny. I mean -- you aren't serious?

I'm totally serious and I'm glad you found humor.

I was afraid of that. Here's a hint:

Wonderful. Let's do a little math here ...

1. What is the volume of melted Greenland ice that would raise the oceans of the world 1 inch?

2. Now the math gets more involved ... now that the oceans have risen 1 inch ... Now what is the volume required for the next inch?

3. Here come the hard part ... What is the elevation of Florida?

4. This one is a bit harder ... what is the land area of Florida?

5. One more step ... each inch increase in the level of the ocean (world wide) equates to how much land loss in Florida?

I could go on with the math questions but it is a waste of time. Some of you psuedo-science folks don't understand math.

How does he plan to accomplish that? It sounds a lot like the Bible story of Jesus on in the midst of the storm saying, "peace, be still." Somehow, I doubt words are going to accomplish much. and now, we're off and running on yet another global warming debate. Isn't happening! Is too! Is not! Geez, guys, you can't refute every scientific organization on Earth by posting on an internet forum. and, it really doesn't matter anyway. No one is going to stop the rise of the oceans, the change of climates, or that runaway express train. No one.

Nice picture. Your mother will be proud of your posing.

Here's something to think about while your head is otherwise unoccupied ... If the Greenland icecap melts ... where will the poles be located?
Yeah, where will Santa live????

I suppose most of them will be in Poland.

I suppose most of them will be in Poland.

If you are talking about the Poles ... you would be correct. However, the real question remains ... where would the poles be located. Maybe you could favor us with that answer.

Nice way to dodge a question. Question #3 was what is the elevation of Florida?

No offense, but your base premise was off by 30,000%, and there is no single elevation for Florida. But I can tell you that the elevation of my house in Florida is about 11' above sea level, so if the Greenland ice sheet melted, that would put my house under about 15' of water.

I'll be the first to say it...

If the choice is fixing our country (and its economy) vs. shelling out money in the name of "global warming," I don't give a fig about the latter. Once problem #1 is fixed, then they can go piddle away their time with problem #2.

None taken. However, my premise was not the 1 inch.

The numbers you use I can only assume are correct ... if all the cap melts. If all the cap melts ... where are the poles? Does the Earth spin on a new axis?

True north is a fixed point on the earths axis. The magnetic north is constantly shifting which has something to do with earth's molten iron core and the spin of the earth. Is that what you mean?

In my view, our piddling economic worries will be a barely remembered footnote in 50 and 100 years when our descendants are suffering mightily for our irresponsible stewardship of the environment.

Maybe. ...and I'm not saying that BOTH things can be worked on at the same time... However, our economy is OUR problem to solve. It must take priority.

i have asked many for proof of the rising oceans as depicted by photographs. The rise of the oceans should have reached up vertically by about 8 inches at minimum. There is a fort that was built on the shore by the Spaniards around the 1500's. It's still on the shore. Miami is not under water and Tampa Bay is still a bay and not a Gulf.

Where is your photographic proof that the water is rising in Florida?

That's certainly the way the folks in the Dark Ages felt about whatever culture it was that scarred the land with those aqueducts.
