The election is over. [W:593]

Re: The election is over.

Voter supression ... Hmmm ... might this have something to do with being legally qualified to vote?

See the above response.

A L

Absolutely not. But that is the excuse being used to push these laws, isn't it.

Re: The election is over.

Okay. Then why do you need a photo ID to cash a check at a bank? Is that voter suppression? Is that anti-minority?

A L

Many people don't. Tell me this... how is it so many people can go for long periods in their life with out a photo ID?
Many retired people do not have valid ID. They don't have a drivers license anymore, and don't need one to bank where they have been for a long period of time.
Many people only have college/university ID (which, btw will not be accepted in TX as a valid ID to vote)
There are may reasons why, and yet the neighbors they have known for years will be the same people who will have to ask for ID in order for them to place their vote.

The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law | Think Getting “Free” ID Is Easy? Think Again!

There are better ways to keep up with valid voter registration than what is being done.

Re: The election is over.

... about time ....

Hey, don't let my logic stop you from talking through you butt. You nor anyone else knows who's gonna win the election. As for me . . . . I'm voting Romney/Ryan. I live in a swing state.

Re: The election is over.

You have not answered the question.

Many people don't. Tell me this... how is it so many people can go for long periods in their life with out a photo ID?

I think the answer to this question has as many answers as the number of people involved. Personally, I have had a photo ID ever since I entered military service ... and that photo showed a full head of hair.

Many retired people do not have valid ID. They don't have a drivers license anymore, and don't need one to bank where they have been for a long period of time.

I am one of those you refer to ... however, whenever I go to the bank I've used for a long time and get a new teller, guess what happens?

Many people only have college/university ID (which, btw will not be accepted in TX as a valid ID to vote)

When I went to college they did not have a student ID. We had to take a piece of charcoal and draw our picture on the cave wall.

There are may reasons why, and yet the neighbors they have known for years will be the same people who will have to ask for ID in order for them to place their vote.

What you say is true. I have served as a voting official in DE for many years. In fact, in the training sessions (which are required before each election) they make the statement, "Even if you wake up next to that person every morning, you MUST see their photo ID."

There are better ways to keep up with valid voter registration than what is being done.

Really? How?

Because I've been a voting official, I see the importance of keeping the integrity of the voting process. And it isn't easy. But as the song says, "Nobody promised you a rose garden".

O.K. Lesee.......ILLEGAL immigrants are ILLEGAL and therefore are prevented from voting. That sounds correct to me.

Those who do not have documentation to prove they are not ILLEGAL are prevented from voting. That sounds correct to me.

And, those who are so stupid, and/or so incapacitated that they can't tell their butthole from their elbow, to get an ID that is essential for an American citizen to function and whose vote would be a travesty because of this obvious mental debility ...... that vote negated would also be correctly voided.

Now, let us assume, that there are some that may qualify to vote but because of some weird circumstance simply can't legally get an ID. If one takes that infinitesimal category of American citizens and compare the value of the negation of their vote as compared to the negation of ILLEGAL & FRAUDULENT VOTING that takes place and distorts the veracity of every election because of a lack of voter ID, one can come to the obvious conclusion that VOTER ID IS AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY.

Re: The election is over.

Unless something wild happens before Nov. the game is over. The GOP failed to convince enough people their platform is better.

Hope you guys fix your platform and come up with something reasonable in 2016. I'm really tired of the Democrats being the only game in town.

With a little luck, all of the wrong minded will have this same belief.

Re: The election is over.

the debates haven't even happened yet. it's way too early to call this one.

however, i agree with you about the GOP platform. there are a couple planks there that i could not support. most importantly, the anti-gay stuff.

All of the social issues are non-issues. There is case law to support whatever stage of evolution the law is currently at.

The big Democrat Bogey Man issues issues will need amendments to overturn them.

The only issues that matter have to do with the budget and the runaway spending. The Democrat Party literally has NO plan. They haven't bothered with one for three years and there's no indication they plan to start soon.

The Democrat Party is not serious about anything that matters. It's like the drunken Frat on campus is running the country and hoping that nobody notices how money is being wasted.

anti-homosexual legislation isn't a non-issue. it's likely to be viewed historically as the civil rights movement of the 1960s is today. i can't in good conscience vote for candidates who are likely to attempt to deny basic civil rights to large groups of Americans.

i believed that in 1999 for a bit. then Republicans took over, spent us into oblivion, and thought that tax cuts could pay for it all. unfortunately, i don't think we're anywhere near the right of the Laffer curve, so i don't agree with them that tax cuts and austerity are the best way out. what i do like about the Republicans is that they are bringing important debt and deficits to light now, even if they are mostly just using it as a wedge issue. we need to talk about this issue, but i don't agree with their proposed solution. we've had the trickle down football yanked from us on kickoff too many times already.

The rights of homosexuals and gays are codified by law in almost every area. The issue of Civil unions will be resolved soon and without any legislation for or against it.

Bush spent money like a sailor on a three day leave. Obama spends money like a pimp with three days to live.

While i think Bush was spending way too much, I'd love to get back to that level of deficit. Bush increased the debt by just under 5 Trillion including the TARP, which is a little situation, but is still criminally irresponsible. Obama has taken this to a new level of criminal incompetence by eclipsing that mark in less than 4 years.

Both numbers are suitable cause for capital punishment.

If this was our system, we would have better adherence to fiscal sanity.

FIrst of all, having a voter ID law will not stop illegal voting. People who want to vote illegally can simply have a fake ID made. My daughter knows half a dozen high school students who can fake an ID. The only thing VOter ID laws will do, as many courts have ruled, is suppress the votes of people who have a difficult time of getting a photo ID. There are so few voter fraud cases brought to court each year that it isn't worth preventing a legal voters right to vote.

Let's see . . . making things up about the minds of others you have absolutely no knowledge of.

What else can we do with that?

Everyone finds me devastatingly handsome; women everywhere want me; men want to be me.

Yep, that must be true, because I said so on a message board.

The issue is simple and can be easily resolved with basic common sense.

Barring an unbeleivable array of preposterous circumstances, any one who is a legitimate citizen of Amerca can easily get a Voter ID. To argue that more voter fraud occurrs with Voter ID's than without stretches credulity to the snapping point ...... unless you are an Obama surrogate.

Being a buffoon does not negate REALITY.

For Obama Surrogates my reply to HairyDic applies to your nonsense.

The election is not over until November 6th (God willing lol)

Re: The election is over.

It's really dependent on Ohio. Currently, Obama wins in almost every poll there but we are still a month away from when poll numbers begin to truly matter.

Re: The election is over.

As an incumbent, Obama is far more like Cater in 80, Bush I in 92 and Bush II in 2004 than Reagan in 84 or Clinton in 96. He has a decidedly good chance of being a one-term potus. For the country's sake, I hope so.

Re: The election is over.

What's not to like?

Especially her account of "Paul Revere riding through those streets warning, uh, the ... the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells."

I think someone has been ringing her bell.

A good one but this one is my favorite.

Re: The election is over.

Im no political expert nor am I a genius...but ive been saying for a long time that this election will come down to the debates...its neck and neck right now and the debates are right around the corner...and they will tell the tale and america will choose the winner then....Who is going to win...I dont have the slightest idea.

I agree, the debates will be very big to the few who remain undecided. Ryan will make Biden look like more of a buffoon than he does on his own and Romney will beat obama with facts and logic. Without his teleprompter obama just can't "build it"

I don't know about Ryan v Biden but that is not really what matters. What does is that Obama is definitely a better orator than Romney.
Honestly i don't know what this "without teleprompter bandwagon people" have against Obama

Debates arent about oratory skills, however. They are about being able to make a concise answer in a short period of time. Obama, if you notice his press conferences, has a tendancy to filibuster and ramble on and on. That wont serve him well in a debate. Plus, all Romney has to do is what Obama had to do 4 years ago against McCain--appear electable. He doesnt have to win, he just has to show himslef to be an acceptable alternative.

A for Ryan/Biden, Biden cant compete with Ryans detailed knowledge of the issues so he wont even try. He will probaly just repeat a few tired platitudes and refer constantly to what "our plan" will do and hope to get out without embarassing himself.

do you think that his teleprompter would have let him say: "you didn't build it" or " we need to redistribute the wealth" ? When he ad libs he shows us what he really believes and his marxist tendencies come out.

Re: The election is over.

i agree that the debates will be interesting. Obama and Romney are both intelligent and capable debaters. the VP debate should be one to watch, as well.

The problem with Obama he has no record to run on. Hard to win a debate when your constitutionally being beat up over your record.

The VP debate will be fun to watch. Biden will surly put his foot in his mouth, and Ryan's intellect IMO will eat up Biden.
