Ryan misleads on GM plant closing in hometown

In his acceptance speech, GOP Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan appeared to suggest that President Obama was responsible for the closing of a GM plant in Ryan’s hometown of Janesville, Wisc.

That’s not true. The plant was closed in December, 2008, before Obama was sworn in. But look how Ryan came close to the line in his speech:

“Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: ‘I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.’ That’s what he said in 2008. Well, as it turned out, that plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day.”

Obama gave his speech in February, 2008, and he did say those words. But Ryan’s phrasing, referring to the fact the plant did not last another year, certainly suggests it closed in 2009, when Obama was president.

If that's the best example, I'd say the case is pretty weak.

Accused President Obama’s health care law of funneling money away from Medicare “at the expense of the elderly.” In fact, Medicare’s chief actuary says the law “substantially improves” the system’s finances, and Ryan himself has embraced the same savings.

The chief actuary conveniently ignores the several hundred billion in cuts to medical provider payouts, which will eliminate doctors from the pool, which will affect the elderly.

Paul Ryan has been caught with his pants down on that lie. Here is what he said, which is compared to actual TV footage, showing the plant closing on 12/23/2008. LOL.

Paul Ryan had the same cuts in his budget and it was voted on and passed by the Republicans TWICE!!

That was one of the most obviously biased FactCheck pieces yet. Again, FactCheck has gotten it wrong in the past, and now they seem to have gone for obvious bias, promising they'll have the same anti bias against the dems come the dem convention. That's lame and they should be called on it.

How does that affect his credibility on his statements regarding Obama's actions??

And assuming it's true (and I can find nothing that specifically and directly cuts payouts to doctors), Ryan also proposed a secondary system for senior care that would have allowed them access to other forms of insurance coverage. Obama's plan doesn't. Which means seniors have absolutely no choice and will be directly and negatively affected.

That's the side they conveniently leave out, think about it, they cut 716 billion from doctors and hospital payments. Already doctors and hospitals are on a reduced payment schedule, making for some doctors to not accept Medicare patients and now they are cutting them below cost. This will force hospitals to go broke, and doctors to refuse Medicare patients. Those doctors left that will take Medicare patients will give only the very minimum of care to be able to make a profit. How anyone can believe taking 716 billion out of medicare is a good thing is insane. Further that money goes to help pay for Obamacare that was touted as cutting healthcare cost, not raising the cost of healthcare.

Of course I did not need to tell you this, but your post got me going.

You're kidding, right?

That would be the voucher system.

They can choose between private insurance all or mostly funded through vouchers, or they can choose medicare. Hence two systems, with one being secondary to the first.

Apparently you're unaware of what's actually in his plan? Because first you talk about cuts to payouts that I can't find, and then you request proof of the most commonly known feature of his plan.

The voucher system doesn't guarantee anything. In fact it undermines the promise that Medicare gives.

Medicare "A" which is funded from payroll taxes provides free hospital insurance to seniors. A voucher is a down payment on insurance, it guarantees NOTHING!

Poppycock. Those cuts are already agreed to. There is no truth at all in the statement. The entire Romney campaign is based on lies and half truths.

Well yeah, because they're part of the healthcare bill. The statement is entirely accurate. Doctors are confirming it left and right across the country. Surely they would know.

I advise actually reading the plan.

What you are unware of is that the "Medicare option" was added to Ryan's "new" revision after the original failed miserably. No one will use a voucher program when they can have Medicare, so what has he fixed? Nothing.

If you mean the AMA, yes Doctors approve of Obamacare.

I'm fully aware of when and how the dual system was concocted, and your assertion that "no one will use a voucher program" is without merit. Again, stick with facts. Lies and distortions just make your posts look stupid.

In you opinion, why is this a good plan? A voucher is similar to getting a coupon for a product from the grocery store. It only pays part of the cost. There is a BIG difference though. If you go to the gocery store, they must sell you the product. If you are 65 and have a preexisting condition like diabetes, cancer or a host of other diseases, the insurance company is not required to sell you a policy. Medicare A gives you hosital insurance and with Medicare B you can buy medical insurance from the governemnt - they can't turn you down.
