Delivered to my Inbox a few minutes ago:

Dear Maggie:

When I'm out there talking to voters, we talk about what we've done, what we plan to do over the next four years, and why the other guys have dangerous plans to go back to the policies that failed America for almost a decade.
But there is another question that keeps coming up, and you need to know about it: "Why do I see so many more ads for the other guys?"

You don't need me to tell you that the Romney campaign is outraising us -- that billionaire ideologues and corporate interests are piling on tens of millions more in negative ads trashing us, and that all of it means that undecided voters in battleground states like Iowa could be seeing false, misleading, negative attacks at a rate almost twice as often as they hear from us.

Last week, when I was in Iowa, voters told me they were feeling it. The numbers back it up: Our side is getting outspent 2-to-1 on the air there.

But the folks asking me about this don't want an explanation -- they want to know what I'm going to do about it.

And the fact is that solving this problem is up to you.

Close the gap on the air by making a donation of $5 or more now.

You're getting this email because you know what the stakes are in this election. You know the facts about what we've done to prevent a deeper crisis and to start building an economy that works for the middle class.

But for someone who's not as engaged, these ads may be an important and possibly even primary source of information about the choice in this election.

So it's a bad situation if 90 percent of them are false, negative attacks on us.

We're losing this air war right now.

I don't have as much time to campaign this time as I did in 2008, so this whole thing is riding on you making it happen.

Donate now to close the gap on the air:

Thank you,

Barack

I thought this might be good news for some -- and give others an opportunity to put their money where their mouths are. ;)

Whoa, you know the president? No way! You better give him some money.

Messages from Obama are more useful when printed on paper that is soft and absorbent. Email won't cut it.

One should NEVER give spammers anything but the bum's rush - ever.

I don't get it.

What money, whose mouth, and regarding what? Exactly what am I supposed to find noteworthy about a political candidate asking for donations?

Am I the only one that is catching this, that he is admitting putting out false misleading ads against Romney??

I only lie half as much as the other guy. Vote for me.

What is my motivation for moral outrage here? Is it that the black president is asking for political donations which is the exact same thing every white president in history has done? Am I supposed to be bothered because despite spending half the money the white guy still has not been able to pull ahead? Am I supposed to be mad because you either signed up for a democrat spam list, or sent a nastygram to the white house and now they send you messages?

Please, help me out with the direction of my moral outrage here because I don't see any real problem with a donation drive so close to the election, nor do I really see anything out of the ordinary. You probably should expect to see more of these.

Oh, and since you seem to miss the subleties of "advertising" it doesn't make much sense when asking for donations to say "everything is going fine and we really don't need your money because mitt is sinking his own ship, but please send us money anyway." I think both candidates probably claim they need money to fight the battle when asking for donations. it is not really a sign of winning or losing, but rather a sign of how you ask for things. So sorry to pull the straw you were grasping for out of your hand, but Obama doesn't seem to be losing at this point.

just a stupid point, but would you actually want to elect a president, aka commander in chief, who couldn't lie? Not that there has ever been an honest politician anyway, but I am pretty sure deception is part of a job that includes national security and top secret information. i think what you are trying to say is that you don't care for when they lie.

Invoking race is lame tererun. If you've read any of Maggie's posts you'd know she is NOT an Obama voter. The issue here is that the Obama campaign sent it's weak and lying request for funds to a conservative voter unsolicited. Not a major deal, but it's interesting to see the lies his campaign is floating in private among supporters. Also instructive to see what sort of scare they're using to get the dollars flowing.

Give him money? Hell, he's got more money than just about everyone here, he should be putting HIS money where his mouth is and showing us how redistribution works.

I am still awaiting my check from his personal account.

Yeah, I have some change around here...

Get it?

Change?

Ya know.....cuz....

...Hope and Change....

Who expected moral outrage?? I think my post was pretty self-explanatory. Good news for Conservatives. A fundraiser for Liberals. It's not often one can speak to both without getting a DiNozzo.

It wasn't that self-explanatory. I'm still trying to figure out how this email is remotely noteworthy.

I thought this pretty much summed it up, Deuce:

I think it's interesting that the Obama Campaign is broadcasting emails all over hell and gone. If you don't? Well, you can just move along.

Ask yourself how much good economic results would equate in campaign ads? The point is Obama has terrible economic results and thus needs campaign contributions to spend to divert from that record. There is no reason good economic results would warrant the need for more money and Obama knows it

We have and excellent chance to get rid of this guy.....Much better then when Clinton and Obama won the first time. It is and exciting time for we Conservatives......Abortion, Gay Marriage and Supreme Courts judges are at stake.

Invoking race is lame tererun.

Let me know, is there some other difference between Obama and every other president and candidate why I should be bothered he is fundraising? Like I said, please explain to me why i should be bothered obama is asking for money just like his opponent and every other president and candidate that is white? The only difference i see is his brown skin, but maybe you can tell me why he should not be fundraising while it is Ok for every other candidate to do so?
If you've read any of Maggie's posts you'd know she is NOT an Obama voter. The issue here is that the Obama campaign sent it's weak and lying request for funds to a conservative voter unsolicited.

First off, it is a spam request. We all know how they get sent. You got on a list somehow. The spambot that sent it out doesn't care that you are a republican, conservative, democrat, or whatnot. All it knows is the email list it got from whatever data mining method it has. Second, these are tactics every president that has, and will, use the internet has used. Romney does the same thing, and so did all the other white candidates. I don't see any bitching about any other candidate using spam or other electronic solicitation means available to them, so again i have to wonder why would she be so mad that obama did it? It is not like there is not billions of spam requests going otu daily from any number of places. This is not about the evils of spam. This is about her receiving spam specifically from obama, which means something must be different about obama. What could that be?

Oh, and the request may have fallen on deaf ears, but there was no lies in it. The only liar i see here is you and her trying to tell us this has nothing to do with the differences in Obama's skin color when clearly that is the only difference out there.

Not a major deal, but it's interesting to see the lies his campaign is floating in private among supporters. Also instructive to see what sort of scare they're using to get the dollars flowing.

So you are saying that somehow maggie got on an Obama supporter mailing list? Then she is whining because she got email supposedly sent to obama supporters only? Who is lying here? Either it is spam, or she signed up for obama emails and it was actually requested by her, and whining about it being spammed to a conservative is really stupid if the conservative signed up to receive it.

Again, i was just wondering where my moral outrage should be. Should I be mad because maggie signed up for an Obama mailing list and got email from it? Should i be mad because obama uses mass mailings to advertise for donations like every other white candidate? Should i be mad that you insult my inelligence with such weak excuses? Should I be mad that i interrupted your "way to go" backpatting session with such a terrible victory over Obama/

help me out here.

So, your grasping at the straw that it is good news obama is fundraising in his presidential campaign? I guess you could call it good news, but on the other side of the coin every president that has won has asked for donations so I guess under your logic he is also going to win? Where is the good news?

like I said, if obama spends half as much and is still holding mittens off pretty well this is not really good news for you. It means no matter how much money you throw at it a turd is still a turd. It shows romney cannot do as much as obama with twice as much.

Now why don't you tell us the truth and tell us why you got the email.

Nobody said you should be bothered by it. It seems it was put up because the OP is not a supporter or donor, thus got some funny spam, so she put it up for everyone to see. Nothing more.

Trying to suggest there should be outrage or that you should be bothered, and throwing in race, is all either due to your misunderstanding of the purpose of the thread, or an inbuilt partisan nature.

Helloooooo??!! Anybody home?? The "good news" for the right is that he's being outspent.

It means no matter how much money you throw at it a turd is still a turd.

I gather you won't be opening your checkbook?

I'm willing to bet one of Maggie's friends played a joke on her.

Your ridiculous race baiting and overblown reaction to something as innocuous as the OP leads me to believe you're not as confident in an Obama victory as you'd like us to believe. ;)
