woops. someone didn't get the memo. or (more likely) doesn't care.

...After Vice President Joe Biden infamously told an audience that Mitt Romney is “going to unchain Wall Street,” and concluded they are “going to put y’all back in chains,” Mr. Romney’s campaign cried foul. This was an obvious and unfair allusion to slavery, Mr. Romney’s surrogates argued.

Well, count veteran Congressman Charlie Rangel among Mr. Biden’s critics on the Democratic side of the aisle.

“The Vice President said he’s going to put “y’all in chains,” Mr. Rangel told The Perez Notes in a recent free-wheeling interview. “Was he talking about slavery? You bet your ass he was. Was he using the vernacular? Yes, he was. Did he think it was cute? Yes, he did. Was it something stupid to say? You bet your life it was stupid.”..

He'll come out in a day or so and recant after the Democrat handlers take out to the woodshed in the back of the plantation. Wait, is that racist if a conservative says it?:lamo

Dear Charlie Rangel and Todd Akin -- please don't ever stop. DP would be an awfully boring place if it weren't for people like you and your dumbassery.

People can use chain-analogies (and often do) and it's no big deal. This was an issue, however, which hinted to slavery because of his TONE.

He said it with a forced country lilt - You couldn't make the statement sound more racist and heartless if you tried.

I'm tired of the 'oh - silly Biden' routine that people toss out when his mouth opens and oozes ****.

I didn't hear that, I've watched it a few times trying to hear it, and I just can't. And I live in the deep south, I don't know

Even Charlie Rangel can admit Biden was "stupid" for his comments to "put y'all back in chains," but the not so wise ones here can't. No surprises there.

I know someone here at DP who would have loved to created this thread, but unfortunately he's on an extended vacation.

It was there - deliberate - and a nasty low blow.

He used a slavery analogy... was it racist? I don't know. He was talking about Wall St. They are already directly and indirectly responsible for putting people in chains in many countries.

I hail from across the border in 'Bama. As soon as we found out he was gesturing to the African American audience, it was fairly obvious.

You sure you're from Georgia?

well. she's from "Atlanta". I'm not sure that's really "the South" anymore any more than Florida is.

That explains a lot!

I was born in Atlanta, but I've lived my whole live below I-20.

what you mean my natural good looks and personal dynamism? well, much of that was a gift from my mother, but yes, being from bama does tend to leave one a bit more culturally superior to most others.

My wife is from Powder Springs - I've spent quite a lot of time in that area west of the city.
