Mitt Romney's Foreign Policy

His foreign policy advisers are a discomforting amalgam, but I would like it if there were more neoconservatives.

You are fond of War, too? Let's see under Romney we get another recession and another war. What an appealing thought that is.

What? I don't understand your criticism. And yes our Navy relatively speaking is in bad shape both in terms of production of missile frigates and destroyers and maintaining and fully equipping our existing fleets which have suffered from personal and technical support staff losses.

Warships are an anachronism and entirly too vulnerable to attack to be worth the expense. The Navy needs to be drastically cut back.

I believe our navy is bigger than the next 11 biggest navies COMBINED.

That isn't the point I was making. We have a critical deficit in small ships and in fully equipped and staffed vessels as a result of crew loss and technically skilled crew loss. And our advantage is primarily in tonnage, countries like China have been crash producing submarines, missile boats, frigates, and destroyers at an alarming rate, and modernizing existing arsenals.

'Cons' against Romney...Cons... :lamo

Hows that Obama foreign policy thing doing for you? China has him bent over a desk, Putin thinks he is a joke, the EU has told him to **** off with regard to 'fixing' economic issues, the Middle East is pure chaos and we have lost several of the allies we had there (in favor of an extremist fundamentalist sect) he is vacant on ALL foreign policy issues, but he DID manage to not **** up Bush's agreement to pull out of Iraq in 2011. Sure, he followed the Bush actions in Afghanistan...and now he is just lost. ****...shave...shoot...he doesnt know. GITMO is still open, Bagram is in greater use than before, he renegged on his announced intent to offer terrorists constitutional rights and civilian trials (mind you thats a GOOD thing...it is just comical he ran AGAINST everything he is doing)....

Foreign policy? Oh yeah...THATS A WINNER for Obama...

No, none of this is true. Have you ever served any time in the military? Do you have any idea how it works? Our military is more technically skilled than it has EVER been in our history. It is far superior to any other nation on Earth in that regard. It is equipped with everything necessary and MUCH MUCH more. This fear-mongering that the PR folks from the military-industrial complex Defense Contractors is just redonkulas. Seriously, its BS Sherman. Listening to that BS just poisens our system. Recognize this hate-wing Spin machine nonsence for what it is and realize that we have the best and the brightest in our military. Its the greatest military any nation has ever produced and it is honestly getting better every day and in every way. Please stop dissing our military folks. They deserve better.

Have you watched his VFW speech?
Video: Mitt Romney Addresses VFW Convention (Full Speech) - YouTube
Here he outlines some very solid ideas foreign policy wise. America truthfully is the greatest country on earth, and as Romney says in the speech, we are worthy of commanding the free world, and the free world leads the rest of the world. Where have the days gone when America was the keeper of peace whether that be through mediation or through force? Where have the days gone when America was respected globally by its allies and feared by its enemies? Where has the strong America our parents and their parents knew gone? Obama has apologized for things that need no apology, he has bowed and diminished our influence in front of global leaders, and he has put us on a track that ends in America losing its status as the most powerful country in the world. Romney has promised us an American century. What has Obama given us?

Somehow this became a Navy thread...

As a recently retired 26 year Navy vet, I am ashamed to say that the poster that said the Navy is in sad shape is quite correct.
The Navy is drawing down on manpower and yet has not drawn down on mission requirements. The latest Navy Times has an article on the fact that deploying ships cannot get underway because of manning so they are asking for volunteers from other duty stations...

Our Sailors are the finest and the most highly trained in the world, Our ships are the envy of every Navy, BUT... the operations tempo must change to meet the manning levels set by congress.

They are sitting ducks.

Please... Tell me of the last time a US Navy warship was sunk.
With over a hundred ships at sea at almost any given moment, finding recent info on these sitting ducks should not be too hard.

You aren't addressing any of the points I made. Saying "BS" is not an argument. And my point has been substantiated by a naval veteran in this thread but I would be happy to provide numerous citations and references. You also never addressed my original point.

CheifGator, is manning the only problem you see with the Navy?
Personally I saw first hand the huge increase in manning that our military underwent during the lost decade 2001-2010. I saw 18 year old kids geting $50,000 signing bonus for a 6 year contract. I saw kids who were just joing to get tuition benefits. I saw alot of kids who really werent military caliber yet were skating by and putting on stripes without doing much to earn it. Bonuses and incentives were being dolled out like candy during that decade and if you were there I'm sure you can attest to that!
Now however, that we no longer have two wars going on, we do not have the same manpower need. Its that simple, and its time to cut back. Time to trim the fat. I have personally seen the cuts in manning documents and I have seen more attention being paid to fitness standards. In short I have seen the military getting leaner and more efficient. Fraud, waste and abuse is my specialty. We have the greatest military in the world, but during peace time, it is common to have a military that has become bloated and too big. Leftovers, hanger-ons from the fat years simply need to be cut. Technology over the last 20 years now allows one person to do the job that it would have previously took 10, 20 even 100 people to do.
Having less folks who are doing a more efficient job is preferable.
So I do not have an issue with the current manning of our military, if anything the belt could be tightened more. Of course you are going to have push back by certain folks - just like you have with Union workers who cant face the reality that things change and times change and that downsizing is simply a fact of efficency.
Furthermore, I will say that I have not seen anything from Romney that addresses the issue of manning in the Navy. If anyone has any information in regard to his stance on this please let me know. But I imagine that like every other issue Romney is non-committal and not being transparent.

I think it is sad that beyond proposing to spend 100 BILLION dollars on DoD projectst that even the DoD says are not necessary, RINO has absolutely NO foreign policy ideas...Does this mean that he wants the US to become Isolationists???
