Im confused as to whether the White House Press Room's purpose is to provide information to the public about the executive branch of the govt, or whether its to provide information about a candidate for the office (campaigning). Does it concern anyone else that the White House press briefing, under both parties, is used to put out campaign information? Today for example, Obama popped in unexpectedly to talk about campaign ads and tax returns, among other things. Wouldnt the proper thing to do be to say 'no comment' and answer that off the clock at a campaign event?
