One of Bain's first investments, under Romney's leadership, was a company called Key Airlines. During the time they owned it, they intimidated workers who were considering unionizing, made threats of retaliation if a union was formed, and fired workers that were leading the effort. Bain was found to have gone so far as to have violated the law with its unionbusting in court several years later.
