If Romney were to end the PPACA, he would increase spending on Medicare by $716 billion. his claim that this money would reduce benefits is a lie.

Romney’s right: Obamacare cuts Medicare by $716 billion. Here’s how.

The Romney campaign has gone on the offense on Medicare, charging that the Affordable Care Act “cuts $716 billion” from the entitlement program.

That $716 billion figure is one you’ll probably be hearing a lot about during this election cycle. It’s worth understanding where it comes from and what the spending reductions mean for the Medicare program.

First, where it comes from. On July 24, the Congressional Budget Office sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, detailing the budget impact of repealing the Affordable Care Act. If Congress overturned the law, “spending for Medicare would increase by an estimated $716 billion over that 2013–2022 period.”...

Republicans, Romney love making up numbers out of thin air. I read this earlier today, Romney is making up these numbers out of thin air.

Oh my goodness you read that?

Well, if it wasn't true, they wouldn't be allowed to write it. Sounds legit.

that is correct. However, the effect on the deficit would be nil because that money would not be spent on Obamacare :).

Obama himself said that it would cut benefits to Medicare recipients. Obama himself said that was what the IPAB was for.

 though it has been great fun watching ya'll run around in circles like this. ya'll were so excited when Ryan got picked because you thought Mediscare was a sure winner for you. Woops? :)

Yep, and Romney has endorsed Ryan's alternative Medicare plan (or something very much like it) which ... wait a minute ... Ryan would Repeal everything in Obamacare EXCEPT the $716 billion reduction in provider payments.

Of the $716 billion in cuts, $415 billion come in the form of “updates to fee-for-service payment rates,” ( THAT MEANS HOW MUCH YOUR DOCTOR GETS PAID BY MEDICARE TO SEE YOU EACH TIME...... OBAMA CARE CUTS THEIR PAYMENT BY 60 PERCENT )a euphemism for reducing Medicare’s payments to doctors and hospitals.

But what happens when you reduce payments to doctors? Doctors stop being willing to see Medicare patients, or they ask you the patient to pay more. (IT IS HAPPENING ALREADY PEOPLE....ITS IN THE NEWS ...ALOT OF DOCTORS ARE NOT TAKING MEDICARE PATIENTS.....MINE IS ONE OF THEM.......AND THIS IS JUST THE START)

USE ALL THE TALKING POINTS YOU WANT........ :doh THE REALITY is....... WE ALL DON'T WANT TO PAY MORE FOR INSURANCE AND THE DOCTORS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TAKE 60 PERCENT LESS

So with the reality of this put plainly in the light for all to see.................Is OBAMACARE REALLY HELPING THE SENIORS AND DISABLED? I THINK NOT!!

AND REMEMBER THIS............................... If you can’t actually get a doctor’s appointment, what does it really matter what your insurance plan covers on paper IF ITS NOT WORTH THE PAPER ITS WRITTEN ON!

HAVING A DISABLED SON HAS FORCED MY WIFE AND I TO THOUROUGHLY INVESTIGATE WHERE EACH PLAN TAKES US. WE ARE ALREADY FINDING PROBLEMS WITH DOCTORS/DENTIST LIMITING OR NOT TAKING MEDICARE PATIENTS...........SO DON'T TELL US YOU KNOW ANYTHING. MAKING UP YOUR OWN FACTS DOES NOT HELP ANYONE. LEAST OF ALL ...ALL THOSE WHO NEED THE " REAL " FACTS.

Adam t.....thats an outright lie. Romneys plan eliminates it......you need to check your facts...not just mix and match to get what you want it to be...the lie

That is incorrect - firstly that the 716 comes solely from cuts to providers (though it is far and away the lions' share), and secondly that Ryan would not repeal Obamacare in full.

Nothing is cut from Medicare for the next ten years under the Ryan Plan.

I feel I have to do this.

This is important to you so you really need to pay attention. Previously, on many occasions, Romney stated that he supported Ryan's plan. He said that he would have signed Ryan's budgets. Ryan's budgets -- both of them -- retained the $716 billion in Medicare cuts. Those are FACTS.

Of course NOW Romney claims that he would NOT retain those cuts. Do you believe him, and if so, why? Keep in mind that Romney will not explain how his plan would make up for elimination of those cuts.

All very nice, except that it substantially dead wrong. The cuts are not to doctors, but to medicare providers, mostly hospitals and rehab centers. The cuts are tied to efficiency improvements of these organizations that are demanded under the new law.

Under the current plan, hospitals and rehab centers receive a day rate that runs for a particular period of time depending on the illness or injury. If, for some reason, the patient returns with the same ailment after a stated period of time, the clock starts over. Each of these organizations has been known to milk such events, holding the patient for the maximum period.

The ACA changes some of the rules on scheduled stays per event, makes long stays less profitable than short stays and severely penalizes hospitals and rehab centers for recurring admissions. As a result, hospitals and rehab centers are seeking ways to minimize re-admissions through coordinated care management with skilled nursing and home care providers, rather than hoping for re-admissions so they can re-set the billing clock.

The ACA demands efficiencies within the medical community. It are these efficiencies that are projected to cut medicare costs by 10%. It is the 10% cost aspect that is expected to pay for ACA. No one is taking money from benefits and giving it to another program; instead they are demanding efficiency. These are the types of activities you should be applauding your government for...

OTH, the other guys are not at all interested in improving efficiency, they want to end the program as a government entity and give income tax cuts to the wealthy (even though income taxes, in theory, have nothing to do with Medicare.) Criticizing the effect on Medicare by the ACA is the ultimate in being disingenuous from those that want the program to go away.

 couldn't say it better myself.

But Romney created this dishonest ad:

you really think Romney cares about telling the truth? But yet he tries to call Obama a liar.

Romney spins his lies about Obama and Medicare on a white board today.

I find it really funny that you are simply quoting him and declaring it to be "lies" :) I really hope you posted it on your facebook the same way.

"Hey! No Fair Citing the Medicare Actuaries! That's Dishonest!"

There's nothing dishonest about that ad.

Only pure truth and justice and the american way comes out of Romneys mouth....why of course CPwill...:lol:

 I didn't claim such a thing - nor would I; I don't particularly trust Romney. But that ad is accurate.

Ryan is not a new hero, he is someone I have respected for some time now. But yes, thus far he seems a fairly honest fellow. Painfully so, on occasion.

A) can you demonstrate him lying

B) can you demonstrate where he hates the boomers or the working class

C) can you demonstrate where I hate boomers or the working class. I don't think very highly of boomers as a generation, but that is not hatred. And I am in the "working class", for pete's sake.

Anywho, so when are you going to tell us what you think about Obama's $716 Billion in Cuts to Medicare Benefits for Current Seniors?
