2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread[W:191]

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

WOW File optimization complete. Convention takes background status now

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

Nikki Haley is doing pretty well so far.
I agree.
Articulate but plain-spoken/tough and good looking [too].

Christie/Hallie 2016 covers all bases, especially women, a GOP traditional weak point.
The Big Man looms after wifey.

I think CC is a bit too wide to get elected. If Romney loses I see Rob Portman as the nominee-something the late great David Broder predicted. But NH will be a viable VP candidate then.

At the moment, yes.
He was indeed well too inexperienced for 2012 as well.
I think we've had the discussion many months ago in a Christie string.
4 Years and 40 lbs would do it though.
That ticket is my admittedly very early prediction for 2016.

Thus far Ann is coming unpolished and honestly a bit overwhelmed to be there, but in a way that is sincere and understandable and highlights she's clearly a normal person trying to get up and give a speech than some practiced, polished, politician. The most endearing parts of her speech so far are those parts that are unpolished and seems to be her just getting caught up in the moment, rather than the parts that seem prepared

Brought to mind one of the best ever.

She's getting better. the storybook marriage bit was good. what a stark contrast to the entitlement addicted woman who currently is in the job

That is a really good description: "entitlement addicted woman who currently is in the job"

Nice touch Mitt showing up.

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

Ann did great.
[Especially compared to the non-prime time speakers I watched earlier]

Christie is up, this should be interesting and entertaining.

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

I thought Ann was great...

Yeah-its a nice touch that a guy with that wealth and looks etc did something lots of other politicians couldn't handle doing-sticking by the first woman he married even when she became "damaged goods". Its something Newt and Kerry and McCain, Kennedy and others failed to do.

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

well the sources for the "Debunking" that Obama quotes are

The Washington Post (Obama toady)
The New York Times (Obama Toady)
Bill Clinton (pretends to be an Obama Toady)

the guy who apparently wrote the law agrees with the Romney camp

and as you most likely recall-I had nothing much good to say about Santorum

Here's what is pissing me off about our two-party power incentive system.

The GOP can't say Obama was right to grant reasonable exceptions to allow governors to modify requirements to meet their needs.

And the DEMs are pretending like we don't need to drastically reform medicare. Medicare as we know it needs to go away. I saw how medicare gets abused first hand, providers know exactly what medicare will pay for and they order everything they can get away with.

Neither party will say this, a health insurance company that tries to provide coverage exclusively to people who regularly get sick and die 100% of the time will FAIL. Government needs to get out of the life-prolonging side of health insurance and stick to compassionate hospice care for elderly patients without means. We certainly don't want Nana to suffer needlessly, but we're not paying for Lipitor and hip replacements. And you shouldn't be able to enroll in medicare until you've completed an end of life medical directive that goes wherever you go.

An idea isn't a good one unless it comes from your party.

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

So Christie wants to make ``America Great Again``...

Is he implying America isn`t great... what an Anti-American.

American exceptionalism is apparently dead to him.

Actually, I kind of agree. I have no problem with them attempting to prolong their lives, using their wealth or the wealth of those that wish to provide it to take measures they deem worth while for the investments.

But I don't think the government needs to be involved and paying for such things, utilizing tax payer money for feel good ideas that fiscally are not sound. I'm, in general, against doing things with government power and money simply because it's "Good". Then again, I think that in general with government involvement with medical care, not just with the elderly

Denying the elderly the ability to get significant government money for relatively small prolonging in life or qualify of life improvements is not the same as DENYING them the ability to get such, just as denying women the ability for the government to shower them with birth control isn't denying them the ability to get birth control.

Re: 2012 Republican National Convention, Aug 27-30, Dicussion Thread

Actually I quite like him.

Just yanking your chain.

Let's be real. When it comes to those speaking at this convention I think we can pretty well expect the comments here to fall right along party lines. /shrug
