Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET[W:134, 926]

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

NBC News now claiming they have 3 inside/knowledgeable sources Confirming it's Paul Ryan with the Backdrop USS Wisconsin.
(Previous Credit in string Redress that backdrop)

t was not me, it was the thread OP who first reported it inthread.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

Perhaps, but Ryan will bring the Tea Partiers onboard with gusto... if Romney picked some milquetoast VP, the truly rabid might stay home. As it is, with someone willing to gut Medicare like Ryan, they'll be out having Glen Beck rallies, storming townhalls, and having book bonfires, all to get out the really right wing vote ;)

Keep in mind that the target right wing voter thinks they're rich too, or will be someday (soon)... so they have no problems with tax cuts for the rich.
But that is just it, the baggers are not going to say "Yes, cut my Medicare!", and the sensible moderate older voters will reject this nonsense without even thinking about it.

The negatives far outweigh the positives.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

I have only one thing to say right now.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

Oh my

There goes granny off the cliff again

Yup. Get ready for the mother of all Republicans-want-to-kill-old-people-and-autistic-kids campaigns.

For those of you who thought 2004 was dirty? We ain't seen nothin' yet.

Hat tip to Redress for catching that connection earlier in the thread

Keep in mind that the target right wing base voter thinks they're rich too, or will be someday (soon)... so they have no problems with tax cuts for the rich.

Yeah. That really is the crux of why their responses to things make no sense to me. They're sitting there thinking "I gots me a doublewide trailer now. I don't need no Buffet Rules whats gonna take that away from me!"... I know that intellectually, but I just can't internalize that it really is what they really are thinking...

Kerry nearly won, The President is in a better position.....and this just sealed the deal.

The Tea Partiers don't think they'll ever get Medicare (or Social Security).

True, but for the moderates and the independents. With this pick, Romney is no longer going for the moderate or independents -- he's gone full tilt hard right Fox News / Tea Party.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

Kerry lost.

Incidentally, it's worth noting - Drudge has been close to the Romney people. The whole "VP Condi" thing was him helping out to get the conversation on to something other than tax returns, and rumors about Patraeus were probably the same. Drudge is indicating now that it's Ryan.

Which could be that they are letting Drudge get the scoop in return for his help.

Or could be that Drudge is helping the campaign by using Ryan to suck up attention from the actual VP pick.

Many of them are getting it NOW.

How did that work for McCain with Palin?

Love the selective outrage.

Medicare is already being cut - and Obama's plan actually cuts more from Medicare than Ryan's plan does. That's going to surprise a bunch of people, and it's definitely going to be part of the campaign.

Ryan is the best at selling this portion of the GOP platform.

who said I was outraged? we have come to the point now where it's pretty obvious what kind of campaign the President wants to run.

I think that is what I said, but it was VERY close, much closer than most realize....and as I said, the President is in a much better position....especially now.

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

The only VP picks I was scared of were Christie and Rubio. They both would have been ultra risky hail mary picks, but that's what Romney needs now. He's not getting in with conventional tactics. Christie would have totally overshadowed Romney, which would have been bizarre, but maybe he could have rode that wave anyways. Rubio would have put a dent in Obama's commanding lead amongst Hispanics.

But instead he just picked the one guy in the universe who is more of a weasel and more openly anti-middle-class and I couldn't be happier about it. He's not just done, he is so destroyed that he is going to drag tickets down for the GOP at all levels of government.

And this is why it is selective outrage. You only comment on the presidents campaign and not Romney's, who has lied and misled and taken out of context every chance he has gotten.

OH MY GOD....someone gab THAT KOOLAID BEFORE HE DRINKS ANY MORE!!!!

Yup, Seniors LOVE hearing about cutting Medicare, that is a motivator.....to vote for the President!

Thanks for the laughs!

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

[...] How did that work for McCain with Palin?
Well, I think Ryan is more intellectually agile than Palin, by an order of magnitude or three. But I'm sure that she brought out votes for McCain that otherwise would have stayed at home (of course she probably brought out as many or more votes against McCain that otherwise would have stayed at home).

I would have thought the safe bet for Romney was to pick a snooze candidate to not outshine his nerdy minimalist appeal. He clearly did not go that route . . . .

Re: Mitt Romney announcing VP selection tomorrow (Saturday), 9 ET

With the Liberals/Obama team outspending the Conservatives/Romney team on ads, I find this interesting. Both campaigns are out of control, and neither wants to focus on the actual problems of this country. Time for a third party.

That is my point, Ryan has huge negative numbers that overshadow the positives. In the long run, this will hurt far more than help.

I'd bet it was offered to Christie but he turned it down.

Rubio has issues... one I've heard mention is money/tax dealings in the past. In other words, he didn't pass vetting (and Romney hardly needs any additional dodgy financial dealings added to his campaign stew). The other is obvious -- neither of his parents were citizens when he was born. Given the hell raised by the hard right over Obama's lineage, that is surely a tempest no Republican would like to set in motion.

We can only hope. However, I am not ruling out a Tea Party revolution -- they're still putting nutcases into the running and getting them elected (one in Texas recently beat the Perry-backed lieutenant governor in the Republican primary for a Senate election this fall). Never count the rabid out.
