Fox News poll: Obama's lead grows as Romney's support slips

The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney's 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.

9 points!! Oh crap, huh?

I'm surprised I'm the first one to post this. The polls that show Romney in the lead or somehow paint Obama in a negative light get posted here on DP right away.

Strange, this one's been out for a day and... Oh well.

CNN only has Obama ahead by 7 points.

Seems like Fox is in the bag for Obama.

Romney has never been likable among us Republicans. He's getting his can handed to him and he's just looking aorund with his head ona swivel like a deer in the headlights. What this campaign is showing that the Repubicans have to start puting forth candidates of integrity, with convictions. NOT flipp flopping RINOs with no creative ideas.

Or perhaps a candidate that can appeal to moderates and Independents?

It's pretty funny to see people who are usually the 'type' to say 'Faux News', and complain about their bias, using them for a source.

Hopefully Conservatives are looking towards the debates to give Romney a boost. LOL!

hey, we get it. you guys love marxism. VOTE OBAMA FOR MORE MARXIST COLLECTIVISM, PUNISH SUCCESS AND REWARD FAILURE--VOTE OBAMA.

Obama is banking on more losers voting than winners or more people who have conceded they don't have what it takes to be a winner voting

The point that you missed is when even FOX has Obama up by a significant amount, it is meaningful. However, FOX is not bad at polling from what I have seen, I tend to trust their polls. The big news in this poll is that Mitt's favorable nose dived from last month's FOX poll, from 52 to 46, while his unfavorable went up, 40 to 45. Questions 11-21 also paint a very bad picture for Romney. When Obama is getting better scores on foreign policy, national security, taxes and the economy over any republican, it spells trouble for the candidate. Poll data: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/interactive/2012/08/09/fox-news-poll-presidential-race/

The one big, huge, major, cannot be overstated caveat to all that is that these numbers will change significantly after each convention, after the VP pick(potentially), and after the debates, not to mention if any significant event happens. It is way too early to count Romney out.

Oh yeah, sure, and if Fox has Obama down, then Fox becomes 'Faux' and is horribly biased and 'in the tank' for Romney. Thanks for adding to the humor of the thread.

Again, the point is going over your head. If FOX news is biased and for Romney, and yet even they have Romney way behind, that is significant. Now personally I disagree that FOX polls are badly biased, I have seen no evidence of that, but that is the argument used by those who do think they are biased in Romney's favor.

My casual observation this cycle is that, if anything, Fox polls have been weighted in Obama's favor. I'll bet it's really pissing them off. :)

Keep playing that Marxist, Terrorist, Kenyan, half-breed card, boys. It works so well.

the truth will win out in the end. Your hero's true identity will come out eventually. Keep up the ruse, until it comes crashing down around you.

January 2013---the end of an error.

why should accurate reporting piss anyone off?

Nope, the humor of the situation is not above me.

One, obvious, theory might be that by lowering Romney's poll numbers they shake up any Obama-haters who might have been lulled into complacency by all the pro-Romney ballyhoo that came earlier... whereas if it looked like Romney had it in the bag those folks might just stay home on voting day. People love to root for the underdog... but if their guy is getting an easy win they won't pay as much attention.

The debates are going to be a hoot, because last time I checked, no teleprompters were allowed.

You know, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Obama weaseled his way out of one or more of the debates.

The "debates" are nothing more than a staged show.

Yeah, I've never seen any real 'debating' going on in those things... it's all about trying to get in zingers on the other guy. If they really got into facts and figures it have most of the audience switching stations. I'm mildly surprised they haven't put in a bathing suit competition or had them bake cupcakes for the judges.
"Let's see who this cute little puppy will go to when they call his name!"

And it's always a hoot when they follow up by talking to the clueless 'undecided' audience to see what they thought... like they somehow got any new information that a decent opinion could form around... vs. just floundering in nonsense like, "I really like Mr. Romney's hair" or "Obama has a nicer smile".

Obama is running a campaign more foul than the worst sewer in all of hell and liberals are giddy and smug that he's shifted a few points in the polls temporarily.

LOL. The karl rove/ swift boat party complaining about negativity. What happened to your balls?

Good.

If Obama wins; he will spend WAY more money; continue to 'f' up the US economy, force the FED into more and bigger QE's and raise the price of my precious metals.

Romney would spend like mad and screw up the economy more also, but probably not quite (though close to) as pathetically as Obama has/will.

So for selfish reasons...GO OBAMA.

If Americans are politically ignorant enough to re-elect Obama, that's not my fault.

And I might as well profit from their ignorance.

Is this the first election you've payed attention to?
Both tribes have put up shameful lies that are pretty darn typical... there's more money to buy ad space so you get to hear it more. Joy!
Does anyone actually base their vote on those ads? Maybe the 'undecided' folks... "OOOH, Romney said something mean, I'll think I'll vote for Obama!"
