Re: Romney's tax plan- raise taxes on the middle class, cut them for the rich
Sorry, but we can't read minds around here. Thank God.
The point is that, contrary to OC's contention, the poor and middle class pay a lot of taxes.
Contrary to your posted contrariness, I did indeed mean income taxes.

Average Income.....Total Income Share.......Total Taxes......Federal income tax %......State and Local taxes %...........Total Taxes %
Lowest 20% $ 12,500.............3.5%......................2.0%.................3.9%.......................12.3%.............................16.2%
Second 20% 25,300...............7.1%.....................5.2%..................9.1%......................11.6%.............................20.7%
Middle 20% 40,700..............11.6%...................10.3%................13.9%.....................11.2%...........................25.1%
Fourth 20% 66,300.............19.0%...................19.0%................17.3%.....................11.1%...........................28.5%
Next 10% 100,000.............14.3%..................15.1%................19.0%.....................11.0%...........................30.0%
Next 5% 140,000.............10.2%..................11.2%................20.5%....................10.6%...........................31.1%
Next 4% 241,000............14.2%..................15.6%................21.4%.....................9.9%............................31.3%
Top 1% 1,254,000..........20.3%..................21.5%................22.1%.....................7.9%............................30.0%
Now those numbers seem to look like they are not paying a lower percentage of their income once you get down to it. It looks as though the top quarter are paying abour 30% of their income to taxes and everyone else is paying less than that. Keep in mind, this isnt even my source. shrug
