While the republican primaries were pretty dirty they were still in intramural event. Now Romney is in an environment he might not be prepared for. Not sure he has run up against this sort of no holds barred, unethical opponent as Obama and company. Even in the world of finance where the saying is " you eat what you kill" there is some measure of ethics and laws you are expected to follow if you are going to be a long term successful player as he was.
Now he is going against people like Obama who not only will do anything but has the power of government to pull whatever levers he needs to stay in office. Just one recent example being the letter the labor department sent to defense companies that they need not follow the law and give 60 days notice of pending layoffs. As these notices would have to go out shortly before the election. Or having the Senate majority leader saying on the senate floor something that had it been said on the street he could be sued for libel.
Romney seems weak in the face of these attacks, much like Kerry did when he was swiftboated.
If he can't fight back against Obama would he be an effective President having to face off with Putin as an example. If Reid can trample him now, how would Romney be able to work with him if he wins and the dems keep the senate.
My sense is that Romney has about two weeks to take this issue on or the race will be over before labor Day.
