"I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, that we should sustain and support it. I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice." — Debate with Sen. Edward Kennedy, 1994

"I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose and am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard." — Massachusetts Gubernatorial Debate, 2002
Flop
"Look, I was pro-choice. I am pro-life. You can go back to YouTube and look at what I said in 1994. I never said I was pro-choice, but my position was effectively pro-choice. I changed my position." — Iowa Straw poll debate, 2007

"What I would like to see happen would be for the Supreme Court to say, look, we’re going to overturn Roe v. Wade and return to the states the authority to decide whether they want to have abortion or not, state by state. That’s the way it was before Roe v. Wade. So I am firmly pro-life." — Town hall meeting, Hopkinton, NH, 2011

"I purchased a gun when I was a young man. I've been a hunter pretty much all my life." — On the campaign trail in Keene, N.H., 2007

"Any description of my being a hunter is an overstatement of capability." — Comment to a reporter from the Austin American-Statesman, 2007

The Mitt Romney Deception
Despite recent statements across the country by Governor Mitt Romney claiming he's pro-life, pro-family and a committed conservative, a broad investigation of his actual statements, actions, and public positions over the years indicates that he has spent his entire career speaking and governing as a liberal - and that his new found conversion to conservatism very likely coincides with his candidacy for the presidency.

Standing on stage at a Republican debate on the Gulf Coast of Florida last week, Mitt Romney repeatedly lashed out at rival Rudy Giuliani for providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants in New York City.

Yet, the very next morning, on Thursday, at least two illegal immigrants stepped out of a hulking maroon pickup truck in the driveway of Romney's Belmont house, then proceeded to spend several hours raking leaves, clearing debris from Romney's tennis court, and loading the refuse back on to the truck.

In fact, their work was part of a regular pattern. Despite a Globe story in Dec. 2006 that highlighted Romney's use of illegal immigrants to tend to his lawn, Romney continued to employ the same landscaping company -- until today. The landscaping company, in turn, continued to employ illegal immigrants.

Seriously, if this guy isn’t struck by lightning at some point during the 2008 campaign there’s no justice in the world. After all, it’s one thing to flip-flop on every issue under the sun in an effort to fool people into thinking you’re something you’re not, but Romney is now taking the art of bull***** to a whole new level - attacking people for doing the same stuff he did.

Romney’s latest swipe alleges that Hizzoner Giuliani is “soft on immigration” because he turned New York into a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants.

Of course what Romney failed to mention was that three cities in Massachusetts formally declared themselves to be “sanctuary cities” (i.e. cities that promise to provide government services to illegal immigrants) during his term as governor, and Romney did absolutely nothing about it.

Sanctuary Cities Under Romney

But Giuliani's campaign said that Romney's aggressive charge on this issue is inconsistent with Romney's record. While governor of Massachusetts from 2003 until 2007, three cities in Romney's home state – Somerville, Cambridge, and Orleans -- either declared or reissued declarations stating that they are in essence sanctuary cities.

the issue is not how Conservative Romney is compared to Reagan or Goldwater. the only issue is how conservative Romney is compared to Obama. and based on that Romney is plenty conservative and the obvious choice for conservatives.

obama has several more months of judging before we can declare him the worst president ever

frankly its going to be hard for him to displace Carter as the worst in my lifetime (born at the end of Ike's administration)

Real conservatives do not vote for dirty libs.Romney is a dirty lib,It doesn't matter if he is 5% conservative and Obama is 4.99999% conservative.A lib is still a lib.

Ever!? Worst that Nixon? Worst than Jackson?

You know what. I think you are absolutely correct.

I have no idea why liberals are bothering to attack him. He has no real chance. If elected, he would be very similar to Obusha AND he might be a better manager than Obusha.

sore losers are going to help keep Obama in office and give us three more justices like Kagan

on economics Romney is more conservative than the other contenders who had a prayer.

abortion and gay rights are distractions that should play no relevance in national elections

Romney's record on judicial and legal appointments

Can he be trusted as President to appoint conservatives to the Courts and Justice Department?

By Amy Contrada

Summary: Mitt Romney's record as Governor does not indicate a commitment to a conservative judicial philosophy.

His judge appointees revealed at best "no philosophical or partisan pattern" (Boston Globe), or at worst a liberal and even radical tilt. He sought out feminists and radical homosexual groups in his judicial selection process. He was inconsistent in his pronouncements on judicial activism, allowing it to occur under his watch (with "gay marriage") while simultaneously urging others to fight it. How then could we expect him to keep his recent promises to appoint constitutional conservatives to the bench if he is elected President?

What sort of attorneys would he name to his Justice Department? As Governor, his Chief Legal Counsels advised him to implement unconstitutional policies: implementing "gay marriage" without legislative authorization, and forcing Catholic hospitals to dispense morning-after abortion pills.

Are achieving "diversity" and "non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation" still core values for Romney in his appointments?

Romney's record on judicial and legal appointments

And from the more liberal side:

Romney’s judicial nominees and his ill-fated effort to revamp a politicized
system offer a window into how he made some of his most important decisions as
Massachusetts’s chief executive. As a Republican governor in a strongly
Democratic state, he started as a good-government idealist, bumped up against an
entrenched system and ultimately decided to work within it. And if, as Romney
suggests, his time as governor is a key selling point for the presidency, his
judicial appointments may be one of his most lasting legacies.

Though he once said people connected to state government would be at a
disadvantage in seeking judgeships, Romney ended up appointing seven lawyers
from inside his administration.

In his final 17 months in office, he pushed through a surge of judicial
nominees, some with controversial records, others with the kind of political
connections he once condemned, records show. They included a former consultant
for Bain & Co., the consulting firm where Romney made his
reputation in business;a former Republican legislator rejected as too political
by the screening panel; and a court clerk who had been reprimanded for asking a
female co-worker to perform a lap dance at a strip club.

Before leaving office, the governor was forced to withdraw several
nominees.
