Sitting Senators have now openly accused Harry Reid of lying. The word is out. It's time for Harry Reid to release his sources.

I was going to say it was stupid of Senator Reid to say that unless he was willing and able to back it up, but who knows, if it costs Romney any votes it may not be so stupid. I DO think it was WRONG of him to make the statement without backing it up. He is just wanting us to take his word for it? That isn’t the kind of behavior I want to see from a Senator.

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

Not just "a Senator", at that. The head of a House of Congress, a Co-Equal Branch of Government, the third most powerful man in Washington.

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

I wish senators had to take an I.Q. test before they get elected, so we can get the idiots out and elect the ones who have brain cells that work.

So a few GOP Romeny backers attack Reid for exposing the hypocrisy of Romeny... who would have thought that the right would use this tactic?

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

I dont particularly like Harry Reid...nor support him...but he accomplished exactly what he wanted to do...just cause some turmoil and have romney and all his rich buddies have to come out and support him....actually it was good move...harry doesnt care who calls him a liar and he doenst have to expose his source.....hes already won

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

nah. he only wins if people reward him for being a liar by buying into his crap and doing what he wants them to.

I heard from some guy you dont pay your taxes. Lets see your tax returns for the last 10 years. That is precisely what Reid did. Take note Reid was engaged in some pretty shady land deals where he made a killing and didnt release his taxes from those years when running for congress. So Reid is the worst kind of hypocrite for this. Never go full on Reidtard.

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

Harry Reid = All that is wrong in politics.

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

Reid is actually smart on this one. If Romney doesn't release all his tax records, Romney will look guilty. If he does release them, he's basically playing the clapping monkey and dancing for Reid.

I think it's a pathetic move by Reid IMO though.

BTW, the only reason Reid won his re-election is because the GOP decided to throw away the election by picking moonbat Angle. Many of my family are conservatives and even they couldn't vote for Angle. Thank the GOP for Reid.

Do the informed independents really care? Romney has released tax returns. He hasn't released 10 years, but he has released tax returns. Democrats are not going to vote for him. Republican's are. Do you think Independents are really going to let tax returns determine their vote? It is a non-issue and background noise.

Given the current state of America politics, yes, it will affect some voters. At the very least, it will be one more thing for some people to not vote for Romney. Why do you think politicians and now super pacs, spend so much money to slam the opposition. The only real question is how many it will affect?

Just because people call themselves independents or libertarians doesn't make them any more well informed or educated about politics than Republicans or Dems by default.

And no, I'm not in anyway saying the Obama campaign or super pacs for Obama don't do the same thing. That's the biggest problem I have with politics today is that the politicians spend more time slamming the other opponent than trying to run on their own platform.

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

Long-time Republican strategist Ed Rollins says that Romney should release more returns ... obviously.

ED ROLLINS: I think at this point in time it’s going to dog him all the way and he needs to get it behind him. He paid a lot of money in taxes. He’s made a lot of money.
CHRIS WALLACE: Wait, do you think he should release more taxes?
ROLLINS: I think he should release his taxes.
WALLACE: Really, you know it’s not going to satisfy the Democrats. They’re going to look at it and obviously there are shelters in there, perfectly legal shelters.
ROLLINS: At the end of the day, you come to a point where you give them a little more and you move forward. Two years is not enough, obviously.

This appears to be a common thought/belief on the side of the fence which will vote for Mitt, "Romney has released tax returns". A belief that is not quite correct. Mr Romney has released only part of one (2010) year's returns. The campaign's own statements about 2011 return is to the effect that they will be released in late October.

Will the non-release of his tax returns be an issue for independent voters? It depends upon two things: First and most influential would be showing 10 years of tax returns in order to show that there really is nothing controversial about Romney's taxes. Second and an inherent part of our political show as it is now constituted - how well does the Obama campaign play the issue with more TV ads, print, statements from the President and his surrogates, etc. - in other words, Is the Obama propaganda machine an effective one?

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

I do think that what Reid is doing is wrong, unless he actually wants to provide some evidence, but with that I'll also mention that this really is a pretty tame claim compared to some of the stuff I have heard coming from the Republicans.

Calling yourself anything doesn't make you informed. Agreed.

Great point on the super pacs. I didn't think of it that way.

So let's see here, the republican chair(not a senator), and one republican senator, and you describe it as "sitting senators". LoLz. PROTIP: your points are more effective when they are not dishonest spin. If you can't attack what Reid said with actual honest arguments, the fault is at your end.

The narrative is being set and the Republicans keep playing into it. By focusing on Harry Reid, you're keeping the focus on Romney and his tax returns as well. Republican should have just ignored it entirely instead of continuing to push for something that will be a loss for them no matter how it turns out. Getting rid of Harry Reid won't really be a loss for Dem, as even Dems don't like Harry Reid. You guys are going after the weakest link and dragging yourselves down to do it.

Reid is playing you folks for fools and you're letting him win.

Re: The Word Is Out on Harry Reid

Yeah, Harry Reid's statement was definitely dirty politics. But by not releasing his tax returns, Mitt Romney is allowing the Democrats to assume the worst and paint a picture of him as a tax-dodging plutocrat. There must be something really bad in there, if Mitt Romney is willing to take all of this crap for not releasing his taxes.

I'll attack it and I despise Romney as much as any other liberal. Reid is accusing Romney of something without a shred of evidence. That is just plain wrong. Here is a trick I recommend doing. Switch the (R) and the (D) of the individuals involved in any political hubbub and if your stance on the issue changes you are being partisan for partisanship's sake.
