President Carter had his 'killer rabbit' episode, BushII his prancing around a carrier deck. It is going to take a few years for most Americans to forget 'Mission Accomplished', might as well get used to it, it is childish to whine about it.

I don't see the Republicans needing any reason (excuse) to start PACs and work to defeat President Obama, they have been very public about that from day one. Some Republican attempting to start a Super PAC which will probably be a funnel into some good friend's pockets as there are so few rules on what that 60 bucks can be spent on...

The rather rabid right wing fringe is getting it's full swings in and attempting anything they can think of. Good for them, I think it is good for the American people to see the mindset involved in the GOP.

This guy may have been a SEAL, but now he is a self serving politician. It is like a war hero becoming a big corporation mouthpiece lawyer...

'bout as low as you can go....

I don't get bringing Bush into this. Ike didn't wear the uniform as POTUS or in campaign because he was purposefully trying to set the nation on a peacetime footing. We didn't stop hearing about JFK's service exploits, and if any subsequent presidents had seen the need to highlight the military or pump them up, and had the past skills to do so, they would have dressed up in a heartbeat. As Commander In Chief you get to wear a display of that. Sometimes it's important to do so. To highlight that fact.

I know you folks on the left still have hard stones for Bush. Despite every little nasty thing you broadcast daily about the fellow, he still got two terms. But flying in and putting on the dog and pony show was appropriate and good leadership at the time.

So sad that you seemingly cannot recognise that.

You don't seem to get the concept that our military is under civilian control and wearing a uniform sends the wrong message... we are NOT a military dictatorship. There is a reason why past presidents have not worn a military uniform while in office.

I don't care that Bush played dress up on an aircraft carrier. Hell I thought he looked pretty cool walking across the flight deck. What I don't like is blatant hypocrisy. The same hardcore right wing partisans that are railing against Obama because they think he is "spiking the football" for having ordered the raid that killed Bin Laden, are also the same hardcore right wing partisan hacks that saw nothing wrong at all when Bush landed on an aircraft carrier while playing dress-up in a full flight suit, with a huge mission accomplished banner behind him, "spiking the football" for a war that wasn't even over.

Do you not see the blatant hypocrisy in that?

Actually, I think JFK was photographed as president while wearing fatigues and looking through binoculars at the Cuban shore.

Not the point. We're not talking about wearing fatigues to the Oval Office every day. There are (we hope, rare) times when it is good for the military, and the people to see the POTUS in official gear. It's a dog and pony show.

Perhaps, but it the President's call and right to do so. He's the ultimate classifying (and declassifying) authority.

He was the man on deck when OBL got the knife, he gets to take whatever credit and as many victory laps as he wants. Of course, he may pay in public opinion if the perception is he's going overboard with it.
