“Makes You Wonder”

I really don't care about tax returns for Obama or Romney, unless someone is making the case either broke the law. If they filed correct tax returns, paid what the law required (even if the amount is $0), then it is a non issue.

Ok well some people would like to know how Romney put 100 million in his retirement account but it doesn't show where all that money came from.. On top of the fact that Romney worked with some shady people who some say he took a lot of money from for Bain investments and such but was really a money laundering/ pay off scheme...if there is nothing in those tax forms that make his finances look shady or off than why not just release them cause a whole lot ideas and accusations can make this whole situation worse for Romney.

Man, I'm gonna need a second job if people keep blowing up my irony meters so quickly...

The subliminal stimuli in propaganda these days is staggering. I like the exaggerated horizontal vacuum tube TV lines, or the greyed out picture of opponents to make them and their ideas look old and obsolete, where everything is clear and in color for your boy.

Goebbels would be proud. And the Nazis make their first appearance. :)

In case you think this doesn't matter, and I'm being a quaint old fuddy-duddy: the level of subliminal brainwashing in today's propaganda is way way WAY above and beyond what you will find in dystopian fiction like 1984, in Stalin's USSR, and in Nazi Germany.

I think you just entered into Godwin's law territory.

I'd say 99% unlikely anything illegal occurred. Simply because this guy has been involved in politics for far too long to suggest otherwise.

The reason Obama and his goose-stepping surrogates want it released is that they think the American public is full of idiots. Just as they're doing with the silly Bain nonsense, they'll pick little chunks out of it and ask "questions." Sure they accuse him of violating tax law or suggest so in the form of a question.

so, instead of discussing the failure of trickle down over several decades, we're highlighting one rich guy's tax shelters. I hate the negative ad ****. I know a politician has to do it to win, but it still degrades the attacker in my eyes. and, to be honest, it makes me sad that this strategy is what we, the voters, encourage. the inevitable result is that the underlying economic problem won't be solved and that the next campaign will be more of the same.

This more like a cop stopping you and asking to see your checkbook.

No, it is more like a presidential candidate being asked to show his finances-an accustomed practice for those in his position.
This "scandal" is biting him in the butt and is providing Obama with a attacking point, yet Romney is still refusing to show his taxes. I wonder why he deems revealing the taxes more damaging than the current situation.

These attacks are feckless, the polls are dead even nationwide and are moving marginally towards Romney in battleground states.

You say that these attacks are "feckless", though i disagree even if they are-the question is one of merit:why has Romney not shown finances from multiple years? He released one-but not others. To me its obvious hes hiding something. Grounds for being attacked on

Which battleground states are those? Can you link to the polling you used to make this claim?

Well if you want to base your choice on someone being a natural born citizen and at least 35 years of age, more power to you; but I think most people want a little more information that that. And to that end, most candidates over the last 30 years have released more than a couple years' tax returns.

I keep seeing this! Can we please see the citation? I've looked and seen a few candidates do it, but it was rare up until the last couple elections. Even then, it's not all of them. What has been shared is usually the active president's required disclosures.

I got this site from someone trying to make the opposite claim.

Maybe Romney should release his returns, contingent on the release of Obama's health records, urinalysis and blood screen (for cocaine, Obama is an admitted substance abuser), college transcripts, and all documents requested by Congress concerning the Fast n' Furious scandal. Agreed? I didn't think so.

Is your job to mediate between the Obama and Romney camps? Lot's of luck with those talking points though....

Yep, that makes sense..the condition of Obama's liver is comparable to Romney's sketch tax filings
What justification is there for Romney to not show his Taxes-take in mind it is an accustomed practice for those who look to be POTUS

I'm not going to list each battleground state because I'm lazy (there are 12). However, Real Clear Politics makes available polling data via USAToday/Gallup, showing in these states Obama having an advantage over Romney 51 to 42% back in April, two months of a negative commercial blitz by Obama has cost him 4%, and gained Romney 3%. We are now within the margin of error (a tie) in the swing states.

Having a drug addled coke fiend as POTUS is my worry, I could care less about Obama's liver. Why won't he pee in a cup? What is he hiding?

Hmm, I guess I spoke too soon. In fact there seems to be little consistency in what candidates have released: Presidential candidates have long history of releasing tax returns – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

I doubt the voting public gives a crap whether Obama pees in a cup, but I'll bet they care about Romney not being transparent and want to know why he is being so secretive about his taxes. The choice is his.

Okay. Really I'm just being a bit picky. I don't mind folks calling for a release of information on someone running for president, but I do like to see the facts straight on the claims. I also like to see equal application. Obama certainly hasn't released every piece of requested information, but I don't hound on that. For equal application, I sympathize with the request for the returns, but don't put a large black mark on Romney for sticking to what he already put out there.

The same thing happened with Obama's birth certificate. Conservatices cried "What are you hdding?" After a long while he showed it and it was basically over (except for some knuckleheads (Joe Arpio in my home st of Arizona for one)). I can see the same thing happening with the tax returns. I can see here Romney will eventally release the returns right before the convention, there will be nothing there, and it will all blow over.

Man this is great stuff. You just can't make up stuff this good.

Yeah, I don't think it's any huge deal either. I think he should release a couple more years' returns because there are definitely some oddities in what he has released, but if I had been inclined to vote for him I doubt this would have changed my mind. From his perspective, even if he has nothing to hide he doesn't want people dwelling on his giant bankroll and super-low tax rate.

My beef with this theory is that why would Romney even risk turning off voters if he has nothing to hide.
What he is hiding is in his opinion more degrading to his chances than not showing obviously shows he isn't squeaky clean
