Obama 2009: Raising Taxes on Anyone Hurts Businesses and the Economy

We have had the Bush tax cuts in place for over ten years .....where are the jobs??????????????

other tax laws and capital gains changes have not helped.. along with Obamacare, Cap and Trade , Dodd Frank, and Obamas energy policy that does not allow drilling.. its nore about what is going to happen, and companies not knowing the rules going forward..
if it wasnt for the GWB tax cuts, as Paul Ryan shows Jobs would be being axed at a much higher rate..

Try harder, would you? This is pathetic.

Most of Obamacare is not in effect, and certainly wasn't during Bush's term. Ditto Dodd-Frank, which in any case is a toothless tiger. There is no cap and trade law. Didn't you know that?

Oil companies are drilling like crazy, and are producing more oil and gas domestically than they did under Bush.

You're right about one thing: uncertainty is hurting the recovery. But the uncertainty has to do with whether Republicans will once again bring the country to the brink of ruin by reneging on our debt.

Support for your allegations are always appreciated.... otherwise we can only assume you listened to Hannity (or other RW wackadoo) this afternoon and are merely showing off your ability of recital.

Cutting taxes on low income people has the advantage that they are likely to push all or most of the tax cut back into the economy. Raising taxes on low income has the opposite effect: it reduces spending just about 1:1 and thus slows the economy. In contrast, because wealthier people tend to have far more disposeable income, a small tax hike doesn't have the same impact on their spending.

Let's be real: if a guy has $475,000 income after taxes as opposed to $500,000 after taxes, he's not going to cancel his decision to buy a new suit, or buy his suit at Men's Warehouse instead of Saks.

cutting taxes on low income people sends them the message that all the government hand outs they want is something SOMEONE else has to pay for so that, OF COURSE, encourages them to demand more and more government goodies since they aren't paying for those goodies

Logic is not exactly your strong suit, is it?

You are mistaken, Debra.

The tax cuts for everyone brought us out of past recessions very quickly.

Consumers always spend their money more wisely and more effectively than does the central government.

Barack Obama is clearly the worst president we have ever had. He is also the most incompetent president we have ever had. He has had four years to fix our economy and he has failed miserably at every turn.

Why has this econoimc downturn, which began in December 2007, lasted longer than other economic downturns? Until now the longest postwar recessions were those of 1973-5 and 1981-2, which each lasted 16 months.

The answer is simple. Businesses have responded negatively to the weakness of household demand. "Although large firms continue to have very substantial cash on their balance sheets, their cash flow from current operations fell in the first quarter. The most recent measure of orders for nondefense capital goods signaled a continuing decline in business investment."

Furthermore, we can blame the Democrats for the very poor outlook for millions of new jobs. Obamacare does not kick in until 2014. Many small businesses have indicated they will postpone hiring decisions until then when the true cost of employee health care becomes much more clearly defined.

you are correct, TurtleDude.

The Democrats LOVE government entitlement programs. The more people they enroll into these programs, the more people they can count on to vote for them and support their socialist programs that are designed to accomplish "income redistribution" from the highly-motivated producers to the "freeloaders" in our society.

Yeah, yeah, as I stated James the tax cuts FOR THE RICH don't work also as I stated we always raised taxes and then economy got better because we were more responsible with our budget...you are obviously forgetting the Bush years nightmare of unpaid for tax cuts, deregulation, unpaid for wars and prescription drug bill that was also an unpaid for nightmare all this in addition to the wall street meltdown nearly destroyed our entire economy! I think President Obama has done a fine job yes it could be better ...the stimulus should have been bigger! And of course we have the do nothing obstructionist GOP who will not pass transportation bill, jobs bill, energy bill etc . Most Americans know this.that is why President Obama will see a second term.

This is pure bull...lack,of demand is why businesses are not hiring ......people will not buy if they are worried about their jobs and many middle class have lost 40 percent of their wealth during Bush 08 meltdown...

Uh.....we kept Bush's cuts in place....and added some more in the ARRA....added in some more with payroll tax cuts...

So by this "tax cut based recovery theory", we should be well ahead of the game. But we are not. So it looks like this voodoo theory, like most rw tax theories, doesn't hold up even to the most casual inspection.

Better luck next time.

That video is a debate on oversight of FM and the GOP had many opportunities to pass reform of FM/FM since they controlled both houses and the WH. The bill promoted by McCain never came to the floor of the Senate even though it went through committee.

and the liberals did what?

And borrowing and spending has done what? Beside increase our national debt by 6 trillion under Obama.

Since the 'we' you are refering to includes a Congress with a Democratic majority and a Democrat President why would they participate in a 'rw tax theory'?

that is funny coming from someone who wants four more years of incompetence in the White House

Snopes.com which president racked up the most debt......check it out........
