Romney sets GOP Fund-Raising record: $100 million

Laughing while our democratic republic is sold like a cheap hooker on the streets is not exactly my idea of patriotism.

Then maybe we should blame the people who turned our democratic republic into a cheap hooker, not the salesman.

And who specifically would that be?

That would be the people who decided that the Federal Government should intervene at all levels of business in every sector it can get it's hands on. Once you begin to legislate buying and selling, the first things bought and sold will be legislators.

Want to get money out of politics? Get politicians out of the economy :).

It's actually quite funny, because I'm a junior in high school right now. I am more than aware of the popularity contests and "unmitigated" bullying. I have yet to go to a university

If this is so, then respect. You write and think well ahead of your peers. I used to be in your boat (though I didn't wander onto political forums until I was two years older than you), and wish I had been more attentive and well-read at that age. :) Would have saved me some foolishness later on.

Belonging to academia is recieving an education. An education lets you think for yourself.

Unfortunately this is no longer true. Firstly, much of the growth in the cost of education has gone to support increased administrative and support staff rather than people whom we would label as "academia". The guy who runs the rock-climbing wall and leads Zumba at the gym on campus is not "in academia", he is a guy who runs a rock-climbing wall. Nor does an education necessarily mean that you will think for yourself any more. 45% of College Students apparently learn approximately nothing in the first two years of school, while 36% of students do not "demonstrate any significant improvement in learning" over the full four years:

An unprecedented study that followed several thousand undergraduates through four years of college found that large numbers didn't learn the critical thinking, complex reasoning and written communication skills that are widely assumed to be at the core of a college education.

Many of the students graduated without knowing how to sift fact from opinion, make a clear written argument or objectively review conflicting reports of a situation or event, according to New York University sociologist Richard Arum, lead author of the study. The students, for example, couldn't determine the cause of an increase in neighborhood crime or how best to respond without being swayed by emotional testimony and political spin....

It is the great equalizer. Our teachers are doing a fine job of teaching our generations.

That is also unfortunately untrue. Our public education system is broken, and we continue to pour great gobs of money into it with little to no improvement.

There are many good exceptions. I was fortunate enough to attend one. But most aren't. And the ones who are least likely to are the under-advantaged kids whom we would want to have some "equalizing" for.

Education has become more important than ever, and sure I've come across teachers that are bias and let their opinions influence their work, but for the most part, I've been happy with what I've been taught over the years.

I've had several of that flavor as well - many more in college than I did in High School.

Complaining about something as old as time itself as if it is somehow recent is not my idea of a sympathetic talking point.

The problem has been smoldering for a long time. Last year the Supreme Court threw gasoline on it.

Are you in favor of giving government the power to ban books?
