Their convention was seemingly being hosted out of a hotel. Unless somehow the GOP had essentially rented out the entire hotel as their own playground for the period of time, they'd likely have no real power to make it go away. They could request the hotel to do it, but the Hotel would likely be reticent to force action on the part of one patron simply because another patron has issues with it when the act isn't actually against any rules or regulations that the person agreed to.

Doesn't look like it was an official GOP activity. Obviously, some dildo brought it hoping to rev up the crowd. Are we really shocked by this? Political discourse has been in the, well...outhouse for a long time now. And as it's been pointed out, the Left under Bush said things equally as horrible about the Commander in Chief. If you want to change the dynamics of political discourse, lead by example, not by whining.

I do not like disrespect for the office of the president or the man from either side...this kind of stuff if why politics has become so divisive and ugly people forget we are all Americans and are on the same side we should fine political parties who do stupid stuff like this ..it's really over the line.

Thank you to the level headed, civilized conservatives posting to this thread. Ultimately it does come down to respect for the office, and I condemn anyone of all persuasions making such tasteless expressions.

Nearly all Presidents, Republican or Democrat believe they are doing what is right for the people, and they want to be President so that they can carry out what they believe is good. There is only one president that I truly hated, and it was because I believed he really wasn't really trying to serve the people. But, even with him, I condemned such disrespect.

You know what? My first post in this thread kind of sums it up, I think.

Ultimately, this little display was created by some idiot taking a (pardon the pun) pot shot at the President. It wasn't a sanctioned feature of the GOP convention and is hardly representative of the behavior condoned by the GOP of that state.

This was a stupid little display of immaturity, but it really wasn't much more than that. Do we need to dwell on it? Do we need to have a pissing contest over it? Do you think Obama gives two poops about it?

I'm not sure what your point is. The GOP would only have a slight level of control over what was placed in the hotel's parking lot, and even then only if they'd rented out the entire hotel. Since that is unlikely, the best they could have done is make a request to management. The hotel management would then have made the decision to request the removal of the display or let it stay where it was.

The head of the state GOP clearly stated he did not condone the display. Short of taking a sledgehammer to the parking lot and destroying it, what do you expect people to do, here? It isn't the responsibility of those with an agenda of meetings, conferences, and speeches to also handle the traffic flow outside of the hotel.

If Obama were to visit a restaurant in NYC as part of a campaign stop and a sign on the wall of that restaurant had a picture of Bush with a crosshairs on his forehead, would we be wanting to know why Obama didn't force the restaurant owner to tear down the sign? No...we'd be nodding and saying, "Good on him" when he expressed his distaste for the graphic.

They did condemn it (you'd know if you read the article). They didn't have the authority to have it removed. Why should the entire state GOP apologize to the first lady? Would you demand that all liberals apologize to Laura Bush if one lone idiot created a pornographic image using her head and an anonymous body? I think the main reason that the GOP doesn't push the hotel to have it removed (because they most likely could), is that this would start a precedent that they would have to continually push to have offensive things removed near their conferences all up until the election. Opposition people to the GOP could then continually put up offensive things around their conferences and create this media circus again and again until election. This would be a great distraction and end up costing time and money for the GOP.

The best thing for the GOP to do is what they did. Condemn it and move on.
