The President has nailed down the Hispanic vote with todays speach giving waivers to illegal immagrants who have lived their whole lives here, stayed out of trouble and where educated here with our tax money. In spite of the moron heckler I think this is a great idea that even the right wing supported at one time and that will put them on the defensive trying to explain why they changed their minds.

We all know why the right changed their minds. It is politically popular to bash immagrants in hard times.During the great depression the marijuana tax act was passed to drive away Mexicans who loved to smoke pot.

If the President wins over Hispanics then it is going to be hard to beat him in several swing states like Colorado,Nevada,NM or even some far right wing states with big hispanic population.

I think this is a smart move that may force Romney to distance Himself from His political base and hurt Him this fall.

Yes, some of us do. Others apparently not so much. First, we're not talking about "the right" changing their minds, but a number of right-wing politicians. They changed their minds because the right refused to change theirs and threatened to vote the suckers out of office in overwhelming number.

Want to engage "the right"? Try to legislate amnesty. Doesn't matter what letter you have hanging by your name, any politician that supports amnesty of any kind and brings it to the floor, "the right" will show up for any chance to get those arseholes out of office.

And solidify Hispanic loyalty to the Democratics for a generation.

In the 1960s the American black vote swung to the Democrats because northern Democrats stood with the civil rights movement. Since then to the present its seen as practically treason for blacks to support republicans. Today not only are Republicans not standing with the Hispanic immigrant community, they are treating them as enemies of America. The Hispanic community represents a much larger voting block than blacks did. If Romney doesn't win in 2012 it could be a long time before we see another GOP POTUS especially if the growing Hispanic community tips the scales in Southwestern red states and turn them blue like Texas and Arizona.

maybe obama will convince the blue collar whites that Obama is against them and they will abandon voting for his hype and blame nonsense because obama is going to pander to minorities and try to get illegal immigrants to vote for him

vote fraud is Oblamer's best chance of retaining an office he never was qualified in the first place

Not only was it a brilliant move, but it is the right thing to do.

A couple of weeks ago I met a bartender in Puerto Vallarta who had recently graduated from college with degrees in anthropology and art. His parents were illegals when they brought him to the US when he was young.

Long story short, he worked his way through college and his parents helped pay for his college. He was working. Had his own apartment and a car. He was stopped for a ticket and soon found himself in jail with other illegals. Eventually they dumped them all on the street in Tijuana. He has been writing letters and trying to find a way back to the country where he grew up. Hopefully this executive order will help him return. Why would America not want good, honest, motivated people who have contributed to their adopted country?

I don't mind the results of the order, personally... i've never had a hard-on for illegals, especially the children.

that said, Obama = legislature... he could have issued an order stating he would not enforce deportation laws , ... but he went and made up his own standards to apply to the issue ... and that is a function of Congress, not the Presidency.... he overstepped his powers... and he went against the will of Congress.

by this decree, he has now bypassed the current federal laws for some, but not for others....which puts him at odds with the equal protection clause of the US Constitution.
if I was an illegal alien, who didn't meet Obama list of qualifications, I would certainly file suit if I was being deported.... no doubt about it.

how you do something is often just as important as what you do.

as of solidifying the Hispanic vote.... that could or could not happen, I won't make that prediction either way.. and i'm completely uninterested in the scourge that is identity politics, so i don't get into those battles.

the best that can be said it was the right thing to do, but done in the wrong way....

Obama was correct last year.... I think he is "evolving" again with his position and actions today.

Unbelievable. The neighbor kid of mine came here as a todler. His mom was from Mexico and eventually married an American. He was with some friends who knowned to him had broken some law. Since he was with them they all were arrested. They almost sent the kid back ti Mexico, a country he doesn't remember and cannot doesn't even speak Spanish..

his situation wouldn't change under this decree.

yeah, IF you have no criminal history, and IF you graduated from high school or got a GED or served in our military, and IF you get a Green Card, you can stay....

..for two years.

and then you can apply for a renewal of your Green Card. But you can't use your Green Card to apply for citizenship or Permanent Residency status...like legal immigrants can.

and if you have a criminal record, or didn't graduate high school, you get deported ASAP.

amnesty? I think not.

Um.... how do you get illegal immigrants to vote? Do you really think illegals are a voting block? Do you think they actually vote? If they are in the country when they shouldn't be, why are they going to show up to the polls and flaunt their illegal residency? Come on, Turtle, you are better than that.

Real Latino Americans, those that are citizens, have one of the worst records for voter registration and voter turnout of any demographic

The Demographics of Voters :: Voter Contact Magazine

Do you really believe illegal latinos are a group to pander if you are looking for votes?

Can anyone name the legal authority authorizing President Obama's action in this case?

are you saying the POTUS has NO authority whatsoever to make any executive decisions?

is the GOP gonna try to impeach him for giving the children of illegal immigrants a helping hand?

wow.

And solidify Hispanic loyalty to the Democratics for a generation.
this may result. not so much because of democratic party action as republican party opposition to hispanic issues

In the 1960s the American black vote swung to the Democrats because northern Democrats stood with the civil rights movement.
yes, but it was the beginning of the end of the democratic stranglehold on government; one it held since the days of FDR
LBJ knew that was a very real prospect. but to his credit he went forward with the '64 civil rights legislation anyway, fracturing the democrat party

Since then to the present its seen as practically treason for blacks to support republicans. let's see how marco rubio's political future plays out
his cuban, rather than mexican heritage, may not garner the support a latino candidate might otherwise expect
but i do agree with your premise, the GOP cannot see the writing on the wall. hispanics will constitute a majority of the US population approximately 2050

yes, executive order

No, it was a simple administrative memo. The executive branch has discretion to prioritize how it will carry out the law.

How disgraceful...Playing politics on immigration..........Hussein Obama would sell his soul for a vote........

Don't really see much change as Obama received 67% of the Hispanic vote in 08.

How disgraceful...Playing politics on immigration.

BWAHAHAHAHA...that's never happened before.

In 2006, I gave the first-ever primetime presidential address on immigration. "We're a nation of laws, and we must enforce our laws," I said. "We're also a nation of immigrants, and we must uphold that tradition, which has strengthened our country in so many ways." I then laid out a five-part plan to reform the immigration system:
George W. Bush on Immigration

..........Hussein Obama would sell his soul for a vote........

Good Lord. Are you capable of a single rational comment about Obama, let alone without the weak attempt of painting him a a Muslim (Hussein)

Give it a rest.

If it bothers you, please don't pay attention to Mitt Romney. You could get whiplash as he flip flops on his primary "self deportation" rhetoric. He said he would repeal the DREAM Act if it passed ... but he's for Rubio's as-yet-unfiled, watered down version ... but he's against Obama's policy, which mirrors Rubio's proposal ... but he won't say if he would reverse Obama's policy ... even though he says he's against it ... because he claims that, for some reason, it would make it harder to pass a full-fledged bill....

Truly a bold stand.

This is the right thing to do, no question.

But, why didn't Congress have a voice in this decision? How is it that:
1. Congress seems incapable of making any difficult decisions and,
2. The president seems to want to rule by decree?

Neither of those two situations bodes well for this Constitutional Republic we like to call a "democracy."

are you saying the POTUS has NO authority whatsoever to make any executive decisions?

is the GOP gonna try to impeach him for giving the children of illegal immigrants a helping hand?

wow.

I asked a question. It appears that there is no legal authority serving as a legal basis for this action. Is no one concerned about the powers of the office of the presidency?
