Us old guys remember 1980. It was around six months until November. The polls in the Liberal Lamestream Media had Reagan at around 38% and Carter up in the 60's. The media painted Reagan as dumb, a boob, out of touch, and the war monger likely to start a nuclear war.

Sound familiar? Its the same old song and dance from the left.

Mark my words: Romney will win big because the people won't be duped by the media..... ..except for the liberals of course, who actually want to be duped.

Romney may or may not win this November; it's too distant to know now. Maybe it just makes you feel better to post things like this.

BTW, do you still think George W. is pretty? :lamo

So, you don't think Romney is duping people by going from a moderate, centrist Republican as MA's governor to a hard-right GOP-er just to win a national election? You don't think THAT'S duping people???

"Lamestream Media"...lol, what a parrot.

Lamestream media....:rofl:spin:

Now, I remember the 80 election. This election is not like that one for a lot of reasons, but most importantly people do not see Obama as they saw Carter, and they sure as hell do not see Romney as they saw Reagan. There is also no hostage crisis going on(remember that, it was kinda a big deal). It is too early to call the election either way, and your "logic" is certainly not going to yield accurate results.

How did people see Carter? How did they see Reagan? I think there is a similarity between the 1980 election and this one: the state of the economy.

Wow a conservative catholic... that's original. Don't worry about being duped while you get your info from the most fair and balanced station on TV!

Going into the election? Carter was the guy who had not rescued our hostages. That more than anything defined the election. Reagan was seen as a common sense, down home, likable guy.

Note that the economy was quite different in 1980 than it is now, and was not improving as it is now.

Ideologically speaking Catholics in the US are split roughly fifty-fifty.

Yeah, but for every similarity you can find there are more than a few differences. For one, we aren't in a full-blown recession like at the end of Carter's Presidency, and the stagflationary environment that existed then is different than what we have now. And Reagan actually had a plan to help ameliorate that stagflationary environment - namely deficit spending and easy monetary policy. Our current troubles? Neither side seems to know what to do - monetary policy has pretty much been maxed out, and the political environment is not conducive to additional fiscal stimulus.

It is true Carter looked very weak on foreign policy, but economic issues were a major part of the 1980 elections, and that will be true this year. And I would say Obama’s policies have made the economic problems worse...not better, so that will be problematic for him this November.

You can think that Obama made the economy worse, but that is an opinion. Under Carter, the economy got worse. Under Obama, the economy got better. That is a significant difference.

Keep in mind that under the current political climate, Mitt Romney will have more on his plate than simply running against Obama - he's going to have to come up with his own prescription for how to deal with our economic problems as well.

Sort of like the hope and change guy who is currently failing to do the job.

I would guess that any Presidential candidate during an election year would have his own prescription outlined somewhere don't you think? I am sure I could find it with a quick Google search.

Romney's gonna win big? Upon what wishing stone did you derive this information? And after what the Republican leadership has done to this country, where in the world do you get the idea that a Republican will elected or president again?

I mean, I can understand party loyalty and ideologies, but science fiction?

And just a curiosity as per you age: are you a WWII vet, or era person?

During the primaries and debates Romney had his fifty-nine point plan, which has garnered its fair share of criticism from economic experts on all sides, interestingly enough. However, whether or not the voters will buy it is the real question.

The dems will keep digging until they find something bad on Romney, true or false.

A situation which is hardly unique to Mitt Romney alone. It's called politics. Examples: Swiftboating, Bush ANG service, Obama is best friends with a terrorist, Obama is a Muslim, etc. Every gets dirt dug up on em.

Well I can't read the future, but I can tell you Romney has my vote. :2wave:

Oh look the lefties are beating on someone from the right and look at them liberal tolerant people being so tolerant about another persons faith. What will happen? Who knows? Comparisons are cute and all but nothing like the present day facts to help us look into the future. Even Obama recently admitted that parts of the economy is in trouble still. The economy is not recovering, Obama is a foreign policy walking blunder, he tries his best to racially and economically divide the country for some votes....naw I think people are just growing sick of him in general. Yall hired his speech writer, not Obama. Let's get real here.

Will Romney win big? Don't know. I think if things keep up the way they are shaping up then he will win. Too early to tell by how much though.

The man has my vote. Sick of Obama's poor handling of the country and it would be great for all the young liberal(understandably a lot of people are liberal when they are young) know it alls acting like Obama is the savior, and the goober old hippies to have their roar stepped down a few notches by an Obama loss.

I seem to remember that in 2004 the liberal media was saying John Kerry was a shoe in over Bush. I remember being very worried the entire election night. Then Bush won hands down.

Reagan also let it leak that he had a "plan" to free the hostages if elected. He didn't lie about that only about the details. Reagan's plan was to trade military parts for the hostages as we found out much later.

I checked my watch, and sorry to burst your bubble but its not 1980...
