Ron Paul supporters, who essentially took over the convention Saturday after electing a convention chairman, say Maine would become the sixth state to elect a majority of Paul supporters to the national convention, assuring the libertarian-leaning congressman a prime-time podium at the Tampa gathering.

Paul finished a close second behind the presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Maine’s GOP caucuses in February but those results were nonbinding.

Charles Cragin, a Romney supporter who lost Saturday’s bid to chair the convention, called the turn of events at the Maine convention “bizarre.” Cragin said the Paul-led delegation may not be recognized at the national convention because of violations of rules of procedure this weekend in Augusta.

The most notable occurrence of the day came when the sitting Nevada Committeeman and Committeewoman for the Republican National Party were both deposed by wide margins.

Committeewoman Heidi Smith caused a stir when she spoke briefly but passionately before the election.

“The only way we can get that damn socialist out of the White House is to vote for the man who will do it!” Smith stated emphatically. She then held up a Mitt Romney sign as Ron Paul supporters booed loudly.

Diana Orrock, a self-described Constitutional conservative from Clark County, won Committeewoman handily with more than 900 votes. Nevada Republican Party vice-chairman James Smack also easily beat longstanding Committeeman Gov. Bob List with 932 votes to List’s 623.

Orrock and Smack will take office and serve their term of four years after their elections are ratified at the Republican national convention in Tampa.
The most egregious impropriety occurred when Romney supporters were caught distributing a “fake” slate of Ron Paul delegates. They were asked to cease their activities and delegates were informed of the differences between the fake and real slates as the convention chairman called for order and respect for the process.

GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul on Sunday nearly swept all of Nevada’s delegates to the national convention as his supporters swamped Mitt Romney backers at the state Republican convention.

Paul won 22 Nevada delegates to three for Romney, according to official vote tallies released early Sunday as the overtime convention extended into a second day to finish business.

Let's see how many states is that now? Of course, the party establishment puppets are bearing their teeth and basically saying they will not allow these votes to stand. Funny, I think if the results had been skewed in favor of an establishment candidate, even if it wasn't Romney, there would be a lot less threatening going on.

It is interesting to see Paul's strategy really take off. I'm wondering how many other states Paul will take at state conventions. Tampa is going to be full of Ron Paul supporters as delegates.

*insert obligatory Redress "he can't win" post here* ;)

It's all pointless.

So that is like 5 pokemon badges he won now? Iowa, Minnesota, Louisiana, Maine & Nevada (lost count). He now qualifies for RNC pokemon league in Tampa to face his rival Romney Oak.

Shout downs at the GOP conventions to stop the other side from speaking. How unusal. Wonder if that will leave a bitter taste in the mouths the non Paul supporters.

But why Ron Paul when the Libertarian party has a candidate named Gary Johnson? I watched the libertarian nominations on Cspan and it was truly sad. But if Ron Paul can't be president, then why don't they vote for Gary?

Don

Gary who?

Paul Supporters no different than OWS...not going to accomplish anything and just make noise....This is Ron Pauls last hurrah and he knows it...and I dont think his kid can pickup the mantra...look in rand pauls eyes...hes nuts...

I hope they make him Secretary of the Treasury. As far as Gary Johnson goes, Ron Paul could of had that spot, but he choose to get his message out instead. I think that is a better tool for the Libertarian party than just having a unknown convention.
