Can someone help me out? I'm seeing a lot of things regarding President Obama, eating dogs, and so on. I missed something somewhere. Could someone give me a thumbnail non-partisan update as to how this started?

I'm just looking for historical information, and how it became the alleged "issue" (for lack of a better word) that it has, nothing else. Thanks.

Supposedly he stated in one of his books...he ate dog while living in indonesia...is it true ? I dont have a clue...

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

This isn't an unbiased source, per se, but it is a Lib-leaning source, which one would presume is not viciously attacking Obama.

Dog Wars Escalate: Barack Obama Ate Dog Meat

Hope it helps, but that's supposedly what it's about. Personally, I don't know what the big deal is. He ate dog on a few occasions in Indonesia. When in Rome...

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

Thanks for the updates. That's kind of what I figured.

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

The shock that was heard around the world: when adults in the US realize that people eat animals.

When Obama was 6 to 10, he lived in Indonesia. He was fed dog while he was there. Here is the passage from his book:

With Lolo(Obama's stepfather), I learned how to eat small green chili peppers raw with dinner (plenty of rice), and, away from the dinner table, I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher), and roasted grasshopper (crunchy).

Reading the passage...its simply the lifestyle in indonesia and he was a kid...its not like hes roasting dog in his backyard and greedily ripping big chunks off in lieu of eating filet mignon

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

My Anthropology professor spent a lot of time living with the Pullopese in Micronesia. She lived there with her young son (he was 2 yrs old or so) and husband. She was learning about their culture - and they were trying to learn about our US culture through her. They were baffled at the idea of us not eating dog. They ate dog - not a lot - but they had dogs on their islands and they would occasionally eat them.

They thought that maybe there was something physically different about us - that we might not be able to digest dog if we ate it. So they asked her if her son could eat it - she said sure. . . he ate it just fine - didn't bother him, he didn't suffer ailments.

He grew up to be a normal person and got a kick out of the story (according to his mother) - and has a normal job, a normal life and a normal family . . . it didn't ruin him at all: he didn't become some depraved weirdo.

LOL - heavens people!

Unfortunately, the non-partisan aspect only gives you part of the issue...

The trouble is it escalates when you start talking about the race for president, and people discounting Romney, because he brought his dog with him on family vacations stored in a kennel they fixed to the roof of their stationwagon...

Now, if strapping a dog to the roof is a reason to discount Romney, why is eating one an acceptable alternative? How is it Romney is having to deal with the wrath of PETA, when he went through and made sure the kennel was sealed properly, and that the dog wasn't being stuck out in the wind... yet Obama goes and eats the thing... and is given a free pass...

That's why it's becoming an issue...

Would you rather vote for the guy who took his dog with him when he traveled, or the guy who ate dog when he traveled?

For me it's a non-issue... I'm voting on actual policies and their ability to accomplish those goals... which I feel many Americans will...

However, the unfortunate fact is, there are A LOT of idiots out their in America who are 1 issue voters, or who vote on something they hear in the tabloids... and this is one of them... animal rights activists...

A couple things pop to mind:

1) The two situations where not in any way whatsoever equivalent. Trying to make them so is ****ing retarded. The actions of a 6 year old compared to an adult...really?

2) The tiny handful of people who might vote for obama over Romney because of the dog issue are not relevant to anything. Hell, the people who won't vote for Obama because he is a commie muslim from Kenya vastly outnumber the number who won't vote for Romney over the dog trip. Stupid people are stupid, lowering yourself to their level is even more stupid.

3) Complaining about people being idiots when you are making such an over the top, lame false equivancy is not a good plan. You remind me of birthers, who hide their foolishness by saying they are only asking questions. You are going to vote the issues, but you sure as hell want people to think that these two events are somehow alike. Unfortunately for you, most people are smart enough to see through the sillyness you posted.

You remind me of the people in school who often have to repeat grades for lack of ability...

I never said "i am only asking questions"... I said these are the things people are raising...

and don't feint ignorance on the fact that there's a large animal rights voting block....

or that people have been deriding Romney over what they feel wasn't decent treatment of his pet (eventhough he went through lengths to make sure he was okay)...

and from that "actions of a 6 yr old" comment, it makes it readily evident, that you've never had a 6 yr old... because anyone whose been around a 6 yr old long enough knows their moral compass is usually far greater... and if you told them they were eating dog, they'd throw a huge fit and refuse to do it...

uhm if you are asking me my OPINION of which thing I think is worse? its Romney.

but of course since im not a freaking LOON

neither of the issues at hand would sway how I would vote.

Oh good lord, I can't even begin to take you seriously.

right... like no one would vote based on this...

oh.... wait... what was that Letterman said...?

(all you liberals have problems with legitimate arguments against you...)

Huh? What does that have to do with anything? It was two commedians making jokes. When you get around to making a legitimate argument, I will be interested.

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

I can see where the jokes would come in. This is, after all, American politics.

I would hope, however, that virtually nobody actually take this seriously as a political or character issue. (I know there will be a handful of non-discerning yahoos somewhere that will)

It seems Romney tied a pet carrier to the roof of a car and took his dog on a road trip some 30 years ago. Since Democrats made a big deal about that, the Republicans dug up a statement about Obama having been fed dog meat when he was 10.

Instead of real issues, it's a lot more fun to dig up irrelevant crap and make a big deal about nothing.

It's a Presidential election, what did you expect?

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

So four years after Obama was on the GOP radar, they want to use this now? I get it, it's meant to be an answer to Mitt Griswold's National Lampoon vacation. Given the chance at moral high ground, they take the petty path.

It's like if a Dem slept with a GOP guy's sister, his response would be to sleep with two of the Dem's brothers and declare victory.

I expected people involved to dig up irrelevant crap and make a big deal about nothing, of course. I have high expectations for our political process.

I'm aware of the Romney thing. While even that isn't the end of the world, to me it is worse in that it is more evidence just how lacking empathy and clueless Romney is to others who don't share his views/status... IOW: those "beneath" him.

The Obama thing is a total and complete non-issue.

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

Note to media, pundits, political cartoonists, etc.

Re: The Obama/dog thing...

Ok ok, stop it already. It was mildly... and ONLY mildly... humorous for a couple days. It's old now. Move on.

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

If he admitted to eating long-pork, maybe that would be something, other than that, who gives a flip what he ate? Since the Animal rights yo-yos are already very deep in his camp, I doubt this is ever going affect anyones decission to vote for or against him.

Re: Can someone help me out? (Obama & dogs)

I think this topic is sexist. Obama gets a pass for eating dog, but if Hillary Clinton eats one ***** her career is over.
