Overall I don't care which person gets elected President so long as the majority in the House and/or Senate are of an opposite party.

In general, yes, I usually take this position as well. There is value in gridlock. It prevents, or at least slows down, what the extremes of either party would do to us if essentially unopposed.

I agree for the most part but what do you do when you have a softhanded twirp like Obama who chooses not to lead?

If Romney were to win the election, I'd be happier with a Democrat House and Senate. If Obama wins, which I believe he will, then I'd still want the Dems in control:)

In the past I would have been very sympathetic to your position, but now I'm absolutely opposed to it. Washington has become so polarized that it's nearly paralyzed and that is not good for this country. Gallup recently did a poll of investors and they identified the gridlocked government as their No. 1 concern. It was also the main reason we suffered a credit downgrade.

Racism is the belief that a race as a group has inherent superior or inferior traits and would be treated differently because of those traits.

It doesn't matter. Remember when Democrats had an almost super-majority in Congress/Senate and Presidency in 2009, nothing different happened. That's not change, it's more of the same.

A split government means each side blames another and you idiots keep voting for the same party.

Also, bi-partisan legislation (what both parties agree on), like deficit spending and free trade, is the absolute worse legislation that's passed.

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if both parties conspire to prevent one party from having a super majority like in 2009, I bet they both agreed to end that Democrat super majority.

Overall, I don't care which person gets elected President...so long as the majority in the House AND the Senate are Republicans.

It don't think it would matter with Obama, he'd do away with congress.

Umm....what in the world does this have to do with the topic at hand? We're talking about political parties....not races.

Or, at the very lease, he would probably ignore them...as he's done at times already. He also has a habit of ignoring the courts.

actually i agree. looking at the Clinton years vs the years post 2000 when a single party was in charge both right and left, the years of gridlock were better

Sent from my YP-G1 using Tapatalk. My YP-G1 is a very nice device that hardly ever explodes or shoots jets of burning acid at my face. Samsung has done a good job in that respect in building it. However one has to consider hamsters in regard to android as cyborg hamsters are very cool. Imagine how fast an Android hamster could run in their exercise wheel for example.

The Republicans best chance of controlling the House and the Senate come if the GOP nominee (probably Romney) would be trailing Obama in the polls by over 10 points in late October.

If independent voters are convinced that Obama is a lock to win this November, they are more likely to vote GOP in House and Senate races.

That sounds good assuming its either Santorum or Obama. Romney on the other is a known liberal and flip flopper. So it works out for Romney regardless if the majority in the House and/or Senate are of an opposite party or not.

I have actually argued for the merits of divided government, especially if they are forced to work together in someway. The lost art of compromise needs to make a comeback.

As a rule of thumb it seems to be better, though then again the 06-08 years were pretty bad.

I don't believe you're in the correct thread.

My answer to this question will be different at time due to the climate of the country and politics.

RIght now politics are so grossly split and partisan that I dont want that because all they do is blame eachother 10 times more than they usually do.

With our "current climate" Id be fine with a dem pres and a dem house and/or senate. But with a rep pres I would want a dem house and/or senate.

ask me again in a year or 4 and my answer may be the exact opposite.
OR I could agree with 100% because the climate might be a more bipartisan one.

I strongly disagree with your sentiment, actually. I think the force idea of as the most logical escape route is a pretty damaging force in politics today.

Meeting halfway in the middle of batsh*it crazy reactionaries and a party more based (but far from completely based) in reality is not the situation we should be looking for. If someone is a conservative and they support a full Republican legislature and Republican presidency, that's fine. I disagree with it and I'm more than happy to explain why that's a bad thing, but it's ideology. On the other hand, centrists take middle of the road position no matter how crazy the ends are for the sole purpose of being balanced. When the two parties aren't equally off base, you cannot point to the middle ground as the best path.

I disagree. I think divided govt. is way overrated. For one thing it makes it far, far more difficult to load a single party with the bulk of the blame or credit.
