Hey, all kidding aside, I have a thought that is more of a question.

Do you think, if the teabaggers or the occupiers or some other whackozoid movement decided they had had enough with "Americans" (ie: these stupid losers you refer to) and they took it to the streets much like they did did in Lybia and Syria, would our government turn their guns on them like their government did in Lybia or Syria?

My guess is they would. What say ye?

I think the GOP should be careful about looking like the party of trying to get votes based on the candidate's race and gender. McCain was accused of that with Palin. If they want Latin votes, then they should try to reach the Latin community with policies and not just putting a minority on the ticket.

I am not saying that's what is happening (I don't know enough to say Rubio is a solid candidate or not, but Palin definitely wasn't), but people are going to think it.

Yeah, I don't think it would work for the reasons you mention. While Rubio is a whole lot slicker than Palin, he's basically just a pretty face.
 
The "from Florida" part is the biggest part of his appeal, but the Hispanic part is good to build on, but may not make any headway with the Tea Party crowd.

Dunno. Does Romney make a play to his weakest swing state with big electoral votes? I would be interested to see any recent polling in swing states pitting Romney against Obama and see which ones are the worst for Romney.

Does he go for a veep with mass appeal that can win over voters in many states? Does he get someone with a more conservative background and better appeal to evangelicals that might sit on their hands on election day for a Mormon?

Hard to say what the best play is for him. I'm of the opinion it's no one we've thought of yet. Although I am pretty sure Christie is out, he's toxic.

Very popular in Florida, which is a big swing state, hispanic so would help there, seems to be popular with the republican base(ie where Romney is weak) and as I understand it(being on the outside) has good conservative credentials.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there's far more subdivision within Hispanicism than most people are aware of (speaking as a "Hispanic" here). Rubio is Cuban; he'll probably alienate at least as many Mexicans as he'll bring to the GOP.

That is possible, though my comments where more perception than reality. How Rubio is percieved is what is important. Besides, the Cuban-American vote is probably more important than the Mexican American vote. He won't get the latter, but if he gets enough of the former, he might win Florida.
