Santorum - not into porn...

I have really begun to wonder if the GOP is trying to to lose this election on purpose.

I mean, Santorum is going to "Bachmann" himself real soon if he already hasn't with this comment.

With Romney bascially burning his money through states to compete with Santorum and Santorum with his way to the right social conservative comments, I simply just can't see the GOP even coming close to a victory at this point.

I know this can change, but damn the GOP seems to want to put itself WAAAY behind before the general election.

Rick Santorum wants to ban hard-core pornography
By Dylan Stableford | The Ticket – 4 hrs ago

Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States.

"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."
The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."
Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws.
"If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration."

I guess I read this differently than others. Illegal pornography is kiddie porn, yes? And Santorum wants the existing laws enforced? What does he mean when he says the DOJ seems to favor pornographers over children? What's he talking about? Specific recent DOJ decisions?

If Santorum is referring to kiddie porn, I agree that this is a scourge. Don't you?

Where did you see one mention of kiddie porn? Are you implying that Obama is for kiddie porn or even turns a blind eye to it? He say's he want's to ban "hard core porn"...

I don't see mention of kiddie porn, but I do see mention of his idea of "obscene" and that is pornography to him and other social conservatives.

I hope he keeps railing on things like this and children born of rape being "gifts from god". This just shows that while he is a solid candidate for the social conservatives, the majority of America are not social conservatives and it will cost him an election if he is selected as the GOP candidate.

LOL this is a vote winner!... I mean the last study I saw about the issue, it was the red states with Utah (/wave Mormons) who consumed the most online porn per capita...

Gotta love those small government conservatives, lol.

While it is true that internet porn is destroying lives by the thousands on a daily basis, this is not an item for Santorum to run on. This is an item to tackle with more patience and thought after being elected, not while running.

It is truly sad what porn does to so many people. I swear it's worse than drugs and alcohol in so many cases.

And it's even sadder what it's done to the innocence of youth. Remember when the "first time" was awkward and clumsy, but in a special kind of way? Porn is so accessible now, poor girls are expected to perform like porn stars right out of the gate.

It's stilted sexuality into such a circus act, it's ruined the once sweet process of just meeting someone and falling for them, and taking things slowly. No one knows what expectations are of them.

None of what you've said is remotely true - it hasn't ruined anything for me or my sex life with my husband - at all. What ignorant dribble.

False expectations and bedroom disapointments have been a part of sex since the dawn of man - so has rape and addiction - and pornography. Now it's available in the privacy of your own home: you use to have to go to a theater to see such activity (movie - or live performance). . . . back throughout all of history.

You're talking as if humans were all bumbling idiots in the bedroom and were raised in a mysterious cloud of sexual puerilism - LOL - I had rough sex long before I had the internet.

Good thing you kept your gun and have the heft of your bible to defend yourself with.

Nope, the first time is still like that. Just because you watch porn does not make you any less clumsy.

I keep my gun loaded and my bible open. I'm a free American and I'm speaking up. That makes me a dangerous threat to tyranny.

Well I can't say for sure, but I would hope they understand that the video has artistic merit, pursuant to the Miller test. :)

BTW, I recognize this track. Which album is it from?
I know its more a sign of me being older...but that question made me cringe...

hmm, I read:

" widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography "

note the word illegal.... usually that means stuff like underage, bestiality, and such, I am for the vigorous enforcement and prosecution of both the distributors, and the viewers. Don't you?

Porn is not the problem. Those people whose lives were "ruined" by porn as you claim have other problems that porn just happened to expose with them. People tend to have addictive personalites and people tend to get addicted to things. Anything can become an addiction if they let it and it can be equally harmful.

I know my wife and I watch porn and it is has only enhanced our sex life. We also have very good communication and that is something that is lacking with some married couples. Communication is literally the key to a good marriage IMO.

Please tell me this was a lousy attempt at being sarcastic....

Take your blinders off and read the entire article, or better yet, got to his website and read all of what he said...

Once again, you didn't answer a direct question. I am for the vigorous enforcement and prosecution of both the distributors, and the viewers of illegal porn (underage, etc), I agree with santorum on this one point.

Do you?

You are taking one small part of his entire position and dismissing the rest, which is totally your choice...

Yes, I am against kiddie porn as is everyone...if he meant kiddie porn, don't you think he would have said that?...do you think that he was implying that Obama was turning a blind eye to kiddie porn?

Of course. I also agree with him that the Sun rises in the East and sets in the West. That was not the point Santorum was making about Porn, however. He has the typical fundamentalist attitude about anything that people enjoy - and yes, he's a Mel Gibson fundamentalist Catholic. Namely that it should be banned.

Santorum does not define what he considers to be "illegal, obscene" pornography. However, given the context, it would appear he considers any and all hard core pornography to be illegal and obscene.

As one who deals in IT and IT security, I can assure you, he is "turning a blind eye" too it, but I think you already know that. what do you think he meant when he said "illegal"?
