... and this is in the middle of a fairly wearing, destructive primary at that. also, look at the direction of travel.

Republicans hold an enthusiasm advantage over Democrats, as a majority of them say they are “more enthusiastic than usual about voting” for president, according to a new poll Thursday.

Among registered Republicans and independents who lean Republican, 53 percent say they are excited to vote this year, compared with 45 percent of Democrats who feel the same way, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll.

The enthusiasm gap has widened recently. In December 2011, Republicans had a 5-percentage-point advantage on this measure (49 percent to 44 percent). It now stands at 8 percentage points....

yawn....another worthless poll...

It is interesting it is still there, but expect the Democrats to become more (perhaps much more so) excited in a few more months. I'm expecting the growing confidence of the Democrats to continue, in rebound from 2010.

Well considering that Republican primaries are happening and the Democrats are just waiting for November, I would expect this.

Once the GOP has their nominee, I wouldn't expect the gap to hold. Democrats will then get fired up, whoever that turns out to be.

It's odd that Republcans claim they're more enthusiastic, when in fact voter turnout is lower than it was in '08 or '00.

Average Republican turnout has been lower through Super Tuesday than in those same states’ primaries in 2008 and 2000 -- a trend that could point to lower turnout in November, a new study shows.

“While the turnout trend in primaries does not have a history of correlation with general-election turnout and the Republican Party is likely to be united against President Obama," the study concludes, "both the divisions within the party, the lack of enthusiasm with the primary candidates by a large elements of the party, and the comparatively low turnout may signal a turnout decline in this year’s general election."

Well, it's a little bit early for dems to get excited. There is no democrat primary going on, dominating the airwaves, that I am aware of.

I am sure when President Obama get's his groove on there will stadiums and arenas across the country filled to the brim. And I'm sure his followers will be singing, clapping and shouting 'Glory Hallalujah" just like a pentecostal tent revival

It will about that time that the republican arms should start to get tired from all their clapping.

Pre-mature excitulation. Bring me to poll numbers next fall and we'll see who owns the spirit stick.

I think many progressives are disappointed in obama. The enthusiasm is low.

And many conservatives like me will be less than thrilled if Romney is the Republican nominee.

The only chance to get republican AND independant votes is with Romney. Without the independants, neither side could win. Even though Santorun gives many republican's the warm fuzzys, mainstream American absolutely cannot stand him.

Romney's the only chance the GOP really has. And even that is going to take a miracle.

Yeah, but I think more progressives prefer Obama than they would prefer any of the GOP nominees.

When the GOP have settled on one of those clowns and we see they have no plan and nothing but weak talking points, people will get out and do the right thing.

The decided to vote for nader over gore and we ended up with the worst presidency in the US history. Ironically gore would've ended up being one of the most progressive and green presidents in US history.

Which doesn't mean a thing since Obama won't do the right thing either.

None of the presidential candidates will, except for Ron Paul.

I dont get the love for ron paul. People are elevating him to messiah status. We tried that with obama in 08. Not a good idea.

that only masters if young conservatives vote in thesame way as young liberals did in 08.

Don't let actual Republican voter turn-outs interfere with the truisms of polls. Besides, like the polls said, Gingrich actually did win in Mississippi and Alabama. The ballot counters were all just liars and cheats.

Ron Paul would get my vote. Looks like I'll have to vote Obama instead.

i would be 8 points more excited if it wasnt for the fact im not a republican.:coffeepap

I don't love Ron Paul. But I am a civil libertarian. And one reason why Obama was voted into office was so that he would act as a civil libertarian and repeal the megatons of laws that infringe on civil liberties that have been passed since the GWB administration.

So what did Obama do when he was elected into office?

He said that nobody from the Bush administration would be tried for war crimes or human rights violations.

He's refused to shut down Gitmo.

He signed into a law a bill that allowed indefinite detention of American citizens suspected of terrorism.

He has claimed that he has the power to assassinate American citizens suspected of terrorism and that such decisions have no judicial or congressional oversight and that the process of doing so is a national security concern and therefore cannot be discussed.

In other words he has expanded every executive overreach that was done by G. W. Bush.

And the worst of it is that no other Democrat has the balls to call him out on this bull**** by campaigning from Obama's left.

That's the reason why Ron Paul supporters are such ardent supporters of him - we're really ****ing sure that he'll put his money where his mouth is and actually ****ing do the things that he's campaigned on.

how liberals work---they stick i key in an electric socket, they get shocked and then say we didnt stick it in enough.after attemot 185 the liberals say i know it failed 185 times but this time it will work.

how republicans work----the republican sees the democrat with his key and says omfg whats wrong with you its better to use a rusty nail.

ron paul walks in and points out they wouldnt get shocked if they werent sticking things in electric sockets.following what ron paul says comes hours of speach from both sides saying how hes a crazy old coot whos radical ideas will destroy society!

IM not sure. He is a politician. I think by now we know none of them can be trusted.

Someone mistook nervousness for enthusiasm.
