Santorum-Endorsing Pastor Calls on Romney to Renounce His 'Racist Religion'
Santorum-Endorsing Pastor Calls on Romney to Renounce His 'Racist Religion' -- Daily Intel

A noted anti-homosexual preacher, Dozier announced yesterday that he'd be holding a Sunday morning press conference to "ask Governor Mitt Romney to renounce his racist religion." Citing verses in the Book of Mormon that accuse God of "cursing the black African people," Dozier also attacked Romney's church for being "prejudiced against Jews" and Native Americans. He also pointed to the highly controversial practice of posthumous baptisms. (In response to criticisms, the Mormon leadership has blocked off the names of Holocaust survivors in its extensive genealogical database.)

"Because of the aforementioned facts, we believe that a Romney Presidential nomination for the Republican Party would widen the racial divide to a point of no return, because the Republican Party would be viewed as a racist political party."

Not that I didn't see this coming, but I hope the LDS responds forcefully. Not because I care, but because it could possibly ignite a cat fight between fundies and the LDS, which I would personally love to see, especially during the primaries.

People can't always control who endorses them.

And they can't control what those people say.

As far as Santorum goes, I see no reason to connect the two.

Oh and this pastor is an asshole who lives in a bubble of ignorance and stupidity.

If I were Romney I'd ignore the whole thing.

People like this don't deserve the attention.

That would be the smart bet. Don't know if it will be the Romney bet. I don't know if it would offend Mormons that he doesn't respond. Don't know how Santorum is going to play this yet, either. IF they both ignore it, which would be the smart thing for both of them, then it's a nonissue, and I got all excited for nothing. I'd just get a huge kick out of it if they started lashing out at each other's religions at this point.

No doubt a reporter is going to ask him about the comments.

The only way to respond without responding is to say:

"I'm not going to respond to the hateful and vitriolic comments made by the pastor, this election is about America and its future and that's what I'd like to talk about"

Slight barb and back on message.

Knowing Romney though he'll **** it up somehow.

"I'm not going to respond to the hateful and vitriolic comments made by the pastor, this election is about America and its future and that's what I'd like to talk about"

Honestly, that might even be enough to kick if off, because it would be call all of the (hateful and vitriolic) fundies who agree with it 'hateful and vitriolic', which they'll feel is an attack.

Mate.

The people out there who agree with the pastor aren't going to vote for him anyway.

Offending them would be a non sequitur.

Oh, no doubt. I don't argue that at all. I'm just talking about turning the mudslinging in the GOP primary even nastier and uglier, which I would personally get an immense amount of amusement from. Almost all Mormons are going to vote for Romney. Almost no fundi evangelicals are. That's not going to change. But what about everyone else? The more mud gets slung, the more it will affect the less-insane people watching from the sidelines. That's what I'm talking about here: Can this help us see an even better GOP nomination contest?

If both Romney and Santorum play it down, then it'll be a nonstarter (sad), but if eitehr of them screw it up, it might get really ugly (funny).

This guy is just plain ignorant, or else he's deliberately lying.

Citing verses in the Book of Mormon that accuse God of "cursing the black African people…"

There are no such verses. There is no mention anywhere in the Book of Mormon of “black African people”, nor of anything having anything specifically to do with them.

The posthumous baptism of jews with out their consent is troubling.

Actually, there are, but don't take my word for it. Take the word of a Mormon.

I don't watch videos in threads, so I do not know nor care what lies are contained in this one. It's irrelevant anyway.

The complete text of the Book of Mormon is at this link, along with a very robust search feature.

Come back to me when you can find a verse anywhere in the Book of Mormon that says anything at all about black Africans, and provide the actual Book/Chapter/Verse reference thereto. If it's really there, you should have no trouble finding it through the link that I provided. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for you to do so.

Wait a minute....isn't santorum a racist as well? :doh

He may be extremely out of touch on a multitude of issues, but you should probably have some supporting evidence if you're going to label someone a bigot.

He's a homophobe for sure, but I guess he thinks, if you're going to appeal to the base, better go all the way.

That way, when you don't get the nomination, you can blackmail your way into a VP spot.

It seems like you live in a fantasy world where the country has already moved backwards into a theocracy.

I live in Mormon Central. They did discriminate (but no mistreat) until about 35-40 years ago but G-d showed up and told them to respect the Civil Rights act. They listened.

One thing about Mormons is they have a very strong sense of Community. They really help each other out. I don't know about Romney himself but generally speaking, a Mormon ain't a Bad Thing. Frankly, I'd rather have an Agnostic but if we must have religion, Mormons are probably the safest group as compared with "Christians" and "Jews". I omitted Muslims because despite some posted idiocy, we don't have and never will have a Muslim President. Obama is an Atheist posing as a Christian.
