Probably the most important endorsement for the republican nomination yet.

“... You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House... and that it's Rick Santorum." Weighing in on the rest of the field, Mustaine called Newt Gingrich an “angry little man” and said Ron Paul will “make total sense for a while, and then he'll say something so way out that it negates everything else.”
As for Mitt Romney, the rocker said, “I've got to tell you, I was floored the other day to see that Mitt Romney's five boys have a $100 million trust fund. Where does a guy make that much money? So there's some questions there.”
Still, Mustaine would pick any of the GOP candidates over President Barack Obama.

Isn't the right fond of saying that celebrity endorsements are of no consequence?

I'll take your comment in the tongue and cheek manner in which it was intended. For the record, Gene Simmons of Kiss had endorsed Rick Perry. That worked out great.

Seriously, Dave?

He had a lot more metal cred before he went all "born again." The music hasn't been the same since.

None of the old metal bands have been the same since. Born again has nothing to do with it. It's just age.

Due to all the products he was pushing (greedy, money making slime) I probably could have guessed that Gene was conservative, but I didn't know.

dude needs to find God or something. He can't stay on the wagon to save his life. He had such good political songs until back in the day. Peace Sells, but whose buyin'... awesome song.

Now we just need James Hetfield to support Obama and the old rivalry of Metallica and Megadeth hating each other should make epic comeback.

Maiden is better than ever, and Sabbath's post Ozzy work is a lot better than people give it credit for. Plus a lot of Megadeth's 90s and early 00s work was actually pretty tight.

Completely not a political issue, but I feel the need to champion some of the underrated post 80s metal.

I saw Maiden in the 90's. Great show. No matter if you like their music or not it was worth it for the theatrics.

there was never a rivalry. dave mustaine was just bitter and jelly over metallica's success. metallica has never given two ****s about megadeth.

There actually was a bit of rivalry there. Dave got thrown out of Metallica because he was a terrible drunk that wanted to fight all the time. So when they told him to pack his crap and leave, Dave was rather bitter and competitive after that with Metallica but you are right in that Metallica kind of moved on with little concern for Dave.

The guitar work Mustaine did though tied with Hetfield... that was some tight work.

I know its arguable for people whether they want to call them metal or not...but Death Magnetic was the best album they put out (with all original content rather than a tweak of mostly old songs ala S&M) since at least 1991 if not perhaps even 88.

The Black Album was the last of their albums I bought, so couldn't say. I was much more into Megadeth then Metalica. Even with that, though, Youthanasia was the last one I purchased. All the original metal bands got old and tired. I stil listen to their older stuff, but otherwise I have moved on to more recent bands and genres. So, I guess I've gotten old and tired too.

You know, if it were Lemmy from Motorhead or Jesse James Dupree from Jackyl, the endorsement might mean something...

But Dave was fired from Metallica in '83 and never really recovered.

Jackyl? they are still around? I thought for sure they'd kill someone with their lumberjack song in a small venue and the off-gassing of that chainsaw exhaust.

yeah, i don't really know to be honest. i was mostly just trying to wind up the megadeth fans. I've never cared for megadeth personally - certain songs here and there are decent, FFF comes to mind- but in general I think they suck. Something about dave's hairmetal-style vocals turns me off. Metallica's awesome though. Master of Puppets, Justice, the black album - so so good.

I really really liked Dave Mustaine's guitar work but his voice irritated me too. He always sang through gritted teeth and it made it sound like great guitar with a highly constipated lead singer. After a couple songs I get like, "Would you go ahead and take a ****? You are making me uncomfortable."

That being said, Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield doing "Four Horseman", "Hit the Lights", Metal Militia" and "Seek and Destroy" back when they did broke all kinds of new ground and kind of set metal on its ear.

Doing some youtube(ing) and didn't even know this happened a couple months ago...

I just heard David St. Hubbins came out for Ron Paul -- purely for the recreational drugs.

Derek Smalls is writing a Moon Base rock opera for his pick.
