and is now seemingly taking Gingrich's spot at the top of the heap, tied with Romney:

...In interviews conducted on Monday and Tuesday nights — immediately before the news of his victories — Santorum received the backing of 17 percent of GOP primary voters. That was well behind Romney (35 percent) and Newt Gingrich (26 percent), and slightly ahead of Ron Paul (14 percent).

In interviews conducted on Wednesday and Thursday nights — after his wins — Santorum’s support nearly doubled, which put him tied at the top with Romney for those two days at 30 percent. That’s an increase of 13 percentage points. Over the last two nights, Romney also received 30 percent, a drop of 5 points. Gingrich came in at 16 percent, down 10 points. Paul’s support held steady at 15 percent....

looks like quite a few people have given Santorum a second look.

friggin' sheeple. what an irritatingly weak field.

Just saw this. Super Tuesday is going to be fascinating.

Because nobody likes Romney - he is the latest anybody but Romney. Fun to watch!

Aww, dis gonna be goooood!

A Santorum nomination means 4 more years for Obama.

I think of the 3 candidates, he is about in the middle in terms of difficulty for Obama to run against. Gingrich would be painfully easy for Obama, Santorum mostly easy, and Romney could be challenging. However, as Romney keeps acting like a dick, Santorum could actually be the most challenging for Obama, though never difficult.

The only thing that could stop 4 more years of the current President is a Mayan Apocalypse and I'm betting on Obama.

I would recommend against getting too confident. I remember this board in 2009 when we discussed how it looked like the end of the republican party. Things change, and sometimes scarey fast.

I love to see the Republican party so divided... Its awesome!

I'd like to see Santorum as the republican nominee. He isn't corrupt (Romney), he isn't corrupt (Gingrich, lol this guy makes me laugh at how corrupt he is), he isn't Ron Paul (Although I agree with most of his social policies). Santorum, at this time, has my registered republic vote :).

And again before we get overconfident, this is exactly what republicans said 4 years ago. Remember Rush encouraging people to vote for Clinton to extend the primary?

Mmm, don't want to pee on your theory, but Santorum has been quite the little influence peddler since he lost his Senate election. Actually, at seven figures a year -- not so little at all.

damn you you have no business going around having my thoughts before I do :D

All of the candidates means 4 more years of Obama.

Actually, I think Santorum will do about the same as Romney. It will be easier the base to vote for him, and Im sure some independent will vote for him if he keeps his bigotry down.

"Bigot" is a reckless term to use.

Santorum may not win the nomination--who will is anybody's guess right now--but much of what he has to say resonates with me, and I am an independent.

I think often about how Obama and the GOP candidates are proxies for the real battle which is, I think, being fought among Americans to direct our nation's path. We are deeply divided, and those on both sides of many of the major issues are passionately convinced that they are right.

I am not a particularly big fan of any of the republican candidates, but Santorum just might have the best chance of winning. I think the Obama people are salivating over the prospects of facing Romney, because he is everything they want to run against, and he was the inspiration for Obamas biggest liability--Obamneycare. Santorum just might be able to run as Joe Lunchpail or David to the Obama Goliath and pull it out. I still give Obama the edge, but you never know.

That's just it--so much could happen (including with Syria and Iran) that could swing votes toward one candidate or another. I do think, though, that President Obama lost significant ground this week. He has alienated some Catholic voters, and his own side can't be too happy either that he caved with his so-called "accommodation."

that's what I'm leaning to as well.

Its still going to be Romney. Wall Street will get its way just as it always does running the GOP. The only chance the anti-Romney people have is an all out effort to join forces and adopt a primary strategy to deny him a majority of delegates and cause a brokered convention. While that strategy is risky and a long shot - it is the only change they really have. But given the political egos involved - its not going to happen.
