Oh My Freakin' God (OMFG) I may be mistaken, but I think this nut not only explained he will start another war in Iran (Proxy with Israel), but went in to say womns rights are irrelevant when compared to "Gods Laws"....seriously, you just lost 30% of the vote....at least.

I can't find the vid yet...so wait for the link.

Santorum strikes me as a nice guy who I would get along with great, but with the most over the top extreme views possible.

Iowa was the worst place for Republicans to start (twice - straw poll and then caucus) because the caucus system of Iowa really makes it the evangelical caucus, not Republican caucus. After months of battling over who can go further to the most extremes of the far, far religious ring wing, that contest continues.
Since the primaries are dealing with pluralities, rather than a majority (no runoffs), the evangelical minority of Republicans is the largest or rather most organized plurality group. Among other things, entire church congregations come in church buses.
Since going to the far, far religious right has been working - all but Paul continue to compete by just keeping going further. To have a chance, Santorum just keeps becoming more extreme. Ron Paul just stays Ron Paul. Gingrich still hopes to remain seen as at least rational and Romney would like a least a chance to defeat Obama - but Santorum must keep just running further to more religious extremes if he hopes to stay alive.
This is not helping the Republican Party. Nor the country. All issues are going off the table except social issues. That is the least of the country's problems.
Santorum comes off as a regular nice guy on TV. But actually his profession is as a Washington DC consultant (lobbyist) and I suspect privately he rather openly sneers down at anyone he does not see meeting his moral standards and that he is overall rather shallow.
There is a perception that if a person has a handicapped child he/she must be a wonderful person. But really they have a handicapped child because that is what the children turned out as and any parent would then have that sense of being wonderful, when really it isn't a factor either way in the person's personalty, values or positions.

I tried searching for it on youtube but this is the only one that came up. Partial clip.

Did he tell Anderson Cooper that he loves him but hates his sin?

Oh lookie! Another thread that tries to destroy Rick Santorum. Wonderfull!

In all honesty, the one destroying Rick Santorum is Rick Santorum. I know he is just trying to win the social conservative base, but in the process he is pushing independents away from him with his comments.

I know I knock Santorum a lot, but I'm speaking truthfully and non-partisan here. People (like liberals and independents) get real nervous with the idea of a hard social conservative as President.

He could solidly get the social conservative base, however, the social conservative base is just a minority in the country and it won't win the election against Obama if the GOP chooses Santorum.

The president has got to be a uniter to be Successful. That is why GWB and Obama failed in that regard. They have to bring together both liberals and conservatives. I just don't see Santorum (or any of the presdiential front-runners including Obama) being able to do this.

My hope for any real change has died until around 2016 arrives.

What's wrong with what he said?

Not a damn thing. Hell, I agree with him 100%.

Though I will admit I am unimpressed, and even somewhat fearful of Santorum...my intent here is to express incredulity that ANYONE would make these comments and hope to be POTUS.

I would think that most people want their candidates to be forthcoming when expressing their opinions...you know, truthful.

But then, I could be wrong.

Absolutely...but when the truth exposes faults in my mind, I form opinion.

What did Santorum say, exactly, that makes him an "extremist?". He is against abortion? I suspect most americans are. He supports Israel over Iran? So do most Americans.

YOU clearly have a problem with social conservatives, but that just makes you a fringe liberal. See how that works?

Ok on the abortion thing, most people don't think that rape victims that became pregnant due to the rape should view the baby as a "gift from God". Just saying.

Actally, democrats and independents I know say that they would vote for Obama, but if Santorum was the nom, they would vote for him. ;) Just saying!

<---- as a combat vet: nothing.

women in front line combat as a standard is a BAD IDEA. it is a VERY BAD IDEA.

I'm sorry you can't face the truth.

The truth is that Obama would pound Santorum into the earth in a general election contest. He's running 9.5% behind Obama in the polls, and he still hasn't been seriously attacked as Gingrich and Romney have. The other GOP candidates have a hard time going negative against Santorum without dinging their own far-right credentials. Obviously that wouldn't be a problem for Obama and the Democrats.

most don't.

most also think that once a baby has made it through the birth and is a living breathing child, that it shouldn't be abandoned to die. Just sayin.

And you know that because you served with women in combat?

Apparently it hasn't messed up the Israeli army too much. :shrugs:

Pentagon Misplaces Priorities on Women in Land Combat

...The Pentagon has announced a new policy regarding the assignment of women in combat that does the wrong things for the wrong reasons. Instead of putting the needs of the military first, the Pentagon is taking incremental steps to implement the deeply flawed recommendations of the Military Leadership Diversity Commission.

The MLDC, composed largely of equal-opportunity experts, has recommended policy changes that would treat the military like just another civilian “equal opportunity” employer. To advance “diversity metrics” for female personnel, the commission has recommended policies that weaken or eliminate women’s exemptions from assignments in or near direct-ground-combat battalions. These include “tip of the spear” Army and Marine infantry battalions and Special Operations Forces...

If a soldier is wounded in battle — what we saw in Baghdad in 2003 or Fallujah in November 2004 — a collocated support soldier may be the only person in a position to evacuate the wounded soldier on his own back. In this environment, women do not have an equal opportunity to survive, or to help fellow soldiers survive. Lives should not be put at needless risk just to satisfy “diversity metrics” or the career ambitions of a few.

It is not realistic to expect that women will be held to the same physical standards as men. Attempts to establish such standards always are attacked by feminists as “unfair.” The result is lowered, gender-normed standards that mandate inequality in the name of “equality.”

By formally eliminating rules affecting units collocated with infantry battalions, the Defense Department is imposing needless complications and burdens on direct-ground-combat units... For this reason, the incremental policy changes announced today will have harmful consequences not only for our brave women and men in the military, but for unsuspecting civilian women as well.

- Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, served as a member of the 1992 Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Forces.

And you know that because you served with women in combat?

actually, yes. we had females come out for a bit in Iraq. A couple of times, actually. It was a F/ing mess.

You need to look at the polls again. Santorum has the highest favorable ratings. ;)
